Without a dissenting voice Scot- I land Neck was selected as the place for the next meeting, time 'eft to the executive committee to decide upon. Rev. C. I.. Whitakcr, of Fnheld, made a Few remarks before ad journment. On motion of Rev. Mr. Whiiaker, seconded by Dr. Harrison, the Association tendered to Superintendent Latham, and Ins corps of teachers and patrons of the school, a rising oie of thanks tor their hospitality and the elegant luncheon served during the recess hour. The luncheon was served in the rooms of the high school depart ment and was most enioyable. Smith, of Scotland Neck, read a delightful paper on the teacher's responsibility and relation to ihe child's general read ing which was endorsed by the president and oilier speakers. Superintendent Akers, of ihe Roanoke Rapids Puin'ie Sciiooi, spoke on ihe subject of regular and prompt attendance, and his re marks were generally endorsed by all present. Superintendent Allbright, not on the program, but he spoke earnest ly of his school at Aurelian Springs and his remarks encouraged the teachers to go forward in their work. Miss Mary H. Wills, of Brink leyville, president of the Woman's Betterment Association, and Miss Bessie Hancock, secretary, made reports and stated that only three reports had been handed in, and that the association hoped to be able to report better progress at the next regular meeting. Dr. Harrison then explained the aims and objects of the Betterment As sociation, the main object being for the improvement of the school buildings, the bettering of condi tions, and aiding and encouraging teachers in the rural districts particularly.
