The farm formerly kiiimn as V. H. Bass Co., Inc., has recently made some changes aiuoni? its stockholder and managers and it now goes under the new name of The Hancock House Co. Work on the new mill has begun in earnest now, and we are informed that the mill building will be completed by Kebruary 1st, or some where near that time. Mr. J. W. House, of Scotland Xeck, has a position with the firm of Hancock House Co. here. We welcome him as a new citizen to our town. Mr. W. C. Bass has returned to Oak Ridge to school. Mrs. Emmet Clary, one of Roanoke Rapid's successful milliners, has recent ly returned from a trip to Baltimore where she went to buv her fall goods. Rev. Mr. l'helps, of Weldou, held ser vices heie in the Kpiscopal Chapel Sun day, Sept. 26th. Mr. W. I). Hancock was here on busi ness last week. Squire R V. Brown has returned from a pleasant visit to his daughter in West Boint. Chief K. K. liohbius made seven ar rests one day last week. It seems the "Knights of Ciideon" were giving an en tertainment in their lodge house near town wnen some of the brethren gut gav and proceeded to break up the show and to raise a n ugh house in general. Vc cordingly they had to suffer for their sins, so Chief Kobbins arrested ami ear ned them before Siuire V. M. Burton, where they answered to the charges and plead guilty paying- the Hues and costs.
