We feel thai (tie work in the Red
Cross for the momli of May is well
worthy of mention. .Si) bed shins
were sent to Atlanta.
Two auxiliaries were organized.
The Junior Auxiliary of the Wel
don (Inulal School was organized
with a membership of The
proceeds of the play, ''Uncle Sam's
hildrcn," were lo put the auxil-
iry on a hundred per cent basis.
The play was splendid, and credit
due the teachers and pupils for
making it such a success, and the
spirit shows the school as a whole
alive to the co-operation needed
these trying times.
Belgian Relief work such as ma
king refugee garments, etc., has
been turned over to the Junior
Red Cross of America. We pre
dict that Weldon children will do
as well as any in America when
comes to sewing and knitting.
The Colored Auxiliary has 17
members and by the last of June
expect to report a great many
more. We find the colored people
in our town ready and anxious to
do their part in all war relief work.
The I (i() men who left for Camp

A CORRI-CTION.
Iii a recent report of the great
Red Cross Drive in Weldon the
writer unfortunately used the fol
lowing expressions-

These expressions have been
misunderstood and were perhaps
unjust, but were written with no
thought of giving offense but from
only a jealous interest and desire
thai the town should appear as an
equal to the very best in every
particular. That she has measured
up lo this in all "war work" and
contributions both of men and
money is too well known to admit
of doubt and we arc sorry that this
misrepresentation should have oc
curred. I. T. W.
