burglar question and the police announc
ing to the force that they must put a stop
to the burglaries which have been com
mit ted bo freely of late, and reasserting it

applies to the regular policemen on guard

The Masquerade: ;
Tlie Masquerade Bill given at the City
Hall last night under tlie direction of Mr.
James M. Brown, is reckoned as the most
successful one of the scries vet had here.
The floor was full of -masquers and spec
tators crowded the gallery Tis well as the
scats on the floor. The Vosturhqs. were
rich arid 'varied, betraying no-t only much
adaptability in thc.sclection of the chara
ters but milch taste and ingenuity in the
arrangement of the costumes! The
masks were removed somewhat earlier than
is usual because of the warm room and front

who were present to have been one of the
most pleasant affairs ever known in rtie
city and if Mr. Brcwn shoKld conclude to
