Harrisson, said to -be an Eng lishman by birth, who has resided in Wil mington for the past six or seven yers, left here early last week ostensibly Baltimore, but in reality for parts un known, taking with him every tiling por table belonging to himself and some other things, also portable, belonging to other people. Harrison has been known here at various times as a gambler, a bar-keep-and a lottery runner. Some years ago he obtained possession of the charter of tnc North Carolina Beneficial Association and had a "wheel of fortune" by which he at different times realized considera ble amounts here and elsewhere. His last prosperous venture was tho establishment here of a lottery dudw- - ''h--'A of the Kentucky drawing, and to this end he was seeking to organize a company. But the times were hard and money came in too'slowly and hence Harrison, despairing of accomplishing anything here, took flight for other scenes He was accom panied by ins family and a man by the name of Mathews, who seems to have been associated with him in the lottery scheme. Notwithstanding the inclemency ot the weather quite a large concourse of citizens were present at St. Thomas' Church this morning to witness the last sad rites of the Church over the remains of the late Mr. James-Darby. ' The Hibernian Association, of which Mr. Darby was a prominent member, es corted the remains from his late residence to the Church, and thence to Oakdale Cemetery. Home Again. Maj. M. P. Taylor, who left , hero last week for attendance on the meeting of the Grand Lodge, I. O. 0. F. at Salisbury, lias returned to the city and the others will be here to-night or to-morrow. -He reports a most delightful time and is profuse in his praises of the hospitalities of the good people of Salisbury, On Friday they had an excursion to Henry's, the present ter minus of the Western N. C. It. R., and from-there they footed it to the top of the mountains, enjoying a magnificent view on a fine day. The proceedings of the Grand Lodge have already bee n published by us. - The Bible Cause. I A large number of the friends of the Bible Cause assembled last evening in the Front Street M. E.
