Military Excursion. - Wc respectfully invite the attention of our readers to the advertisement of the excursion .to be given by the Whiting 1 titles oa next Wednesday, the 18th insti The programme they offer is a very atj Iractivc on?, and the object for; which the excursion is given, (to aid the Company in the purchase of more uniforms,) is very commendable, and one worthy jof the most liberal encouragement and patronage of the citizens of Wilmington. j The '"Charlotte Grays" who are expec ted to arrive here on Tuesday,; have enr gaged passage down the river; with the Whitings, and wc C3ugratulate both com panies for having hit upon the same day for a trip to the ocean, as they will doubtless add much to each others pleasure. Lc every body buy a ticket and go. Pretty Household Fashions. - One of tho charming and noticeable things about Taris, says Jennie June fis the profusion of plants, potsnd flowers. The masses of white, blue purple and yellow blossoms make a pid ture wherever the eye rests, aud ladies who "receive" and everybody does receive that is anybody, from October until May or June -arc en abled to avail themselves of this profusion for the adornment of their rooms at a very slight cost. The mode is to contract to have your rooms supplied with a gitren riunibcr'of plants' Tof the season and these arc brought and renewed, tho old ones being taken away every, week. "With the plants arc usually brought a couple of bouquets of freshly cut flowers, which look brilliant for the day, while the plants, of course, keep always their gravencss, as they are renewed before, they have time to Superior Court Clerkship. Judge McKoy has not up to this present writing made any appointment of Superior Court"Clcrk, but it is thought he will do sqat once. Col. Jno. D. Taylor is said to be the coming man. Judge McKov is at his home in Clinton, and will probably make the appointment as soon as the applications for the office reach him. Quarterly Meetings. Third round of appointments as made by-.Kcr. I The Evening Stay, j The planet of Jupiter, now tho most brihiaut star in the heavens, will soon find a competitor for the ascendancy. A formidable rival has already entered tho arena. ' I t is tho planet of Venus, which 'iViy be been on any clear night, Iow down iu the west, when the sun is sunk far enough below the horizon to. j allow the lesser luminary to become visible. Venus was in superior conjunction with the suu on the 10th of May, and has Wen evening star ever since, but too near lie sun to be seen until within a short time. Ocq of the interesting planetary -events of July maybe found in watching the movements of this bright cveniag star. It sets now about twenty minutes before nine, an hour after the sun. As it is re cccding from the sun, and coming towards the earth, it will each evening be visible for a longer time after sunset, and ap parently increaso in brilliancy. On the evening of the 11th instant it was in con junction with the new moon of the 10th, and the slender crescent, only a day old, with the soft golden star for a companion, made a celestial picture. ! r t-'.::':- :'' To thk Hditor of Tire "Ke view: .
