Nut Shell : To give our readers an idea of the immense watermel on patch cultivated this season by Mr. W. B. .Coleman, the celebrated Carteret county: truck larmcr, we can .ay, on good authority, that his crop will reach the enormous amount of 75,000. He has already shipped four schooner loads of his melons, each cargo being 7,000, for New York and Philadelphia, and is now loading another. Mr. Coleman expected to raise -100,000 melons this season, but the heavy raics which have visited that soction has cut off his crop one-fourth. Fayetteville Gazelle. t We are much pained to announce the death of our friend, Capt. A. A. Mclvcr, of Moore county, which occurred suddenly at Jonesboro last Tucsda'. Capt. Mclvcr had been unwell, had been asleep, and, on awaking, had made some remark to his wife, who passed into another room: to find him on her return groaning and already in the grasp of death. Capt. Mclrer was a native of llobcson county; be was a gallant soldier during the war, and was commanding officer of the Scotch Boys, who formed part of Gen. Matt lUajom's. splendid brigade. He was a member of the Legislature of 1874-75. ami served his people there faithfully; lie married an estimable lady, daughter of Mr. N. R.
