The Streo t Car track has been hud up Market, to Seventeenth street, and ' the cars will run over the T&wly laid track on or before Monday next. The switch be tween Eighth and Ninth streets has not yet been completed, but will probably be so by to-morrow night; I The Raleigh Necs says ; Wc saw a the Auditor's office yesterday the register or, book of "privilege taxes," of New Hanover county, prepared by Alfred B. Lind, deputy clerk of that county, which is the neatest and most artistic thing of the kind we .ever saw. It ought to bo adopted as a model. v Caution to the Public We understand there are unprincipled grocers and dealers who palm off on- no way purchasers Yeast P owder in bulk, or loose, for the genuine Dooley's Yeast Powder. We have been requested to state that Rev. W. G. McKinncy, a colored minis ter of the Episcopal Church, will lecture again next Friday evening, in Lippitt's Hall, the proceeds of the collection which will be tr.ken up to go towards . the erec tion of a church in Charlotte for the colored Episcopalians in that city. t: Superior Court. The case of Robert Smith, charged with the murder of James Murphy, removed from Bladen, came up for trial this morn ing. The entire forenoon was consumed in. getting a jury, when Court adjourned to 3 o'clock. The following comprise the jary: Luhr Voliers; II. U. Grant, W. H. Cot ton, colored, Robert Ilenning, W. A. ViUsen, Sam'l C. Nixon, colored, E. G. Whitney, Isaac B. Northrop, W. L. Jacobs, Thos. Browuellc, colored R. M. Mclnttre, Elijah Lane, colored. A large number of witnesses will be ex amined and the case excites a great deal of interest. All Saints' Day. To-morrow, the first of November, . is celebrated in the Episcopal Church as the Festival of all Saints. The ' t arm ''All Saints'" is construed to mean all good and holy persons who have died in the faith and were distinguished for their holiness, and the object in view in commemorating them is to honor God by calling to mind their virtues and to encourage Christians by their good examples. On this Festival day the Churches are generally draped with solemn insignia and here with us the grey drooping inoss, relieved here and there by a few Colorless flowers, is generally the adornment used in the body of the church. The services are solemn bunot sad and beautiful and impressive, foif 4t is not an occasion when sorrow should! be felt ; the : Church docs not mourn! for those who died the death of the righteous and who now rest in Paradise awaiting the sound of the archangel's trumpet. Hon. A, M. Waddell. It is a fortunate thing for the poople of the entire South, as well as of this State, that Hon. Alfred M. Waddell, the Repre sentative in Congress from this district has been . made Chairman of the Postal Committee in the House. Mr. Speaker Randall baa shown remarkable discern ment. Col. Waddell has made himself thoroughly conversant with the subject, and we do not think that any other mem ber of the present Congress could be found who would fill the position more acepta bly than wili he. He has carefully studied that branch of the public service and hifl views thereon have been eagerly sought for as was sufficiently attested last Spring, when a communication from him, published in this paper, was read all over the country, oho of the applicants for a copy of the paper containing it having been Postmaster! James, of New York, and the 'communication itself having af terwards been published in the New York World with a warm editorial endorsement. In this instance it is evident that Col. Vaddell is the right man in exactly the right place. A Tragedy in Rockingham. We learn of a tragedy which occurred at Rockingham yesterday morning. The jailer at that place Mr. Alex McDonald, entered as usual the jail yesterday morn ing,; for the purpose of giving the prison ers confined" there their breakfast. Daughter of Samaria, from Wilmington, arrived in this city last evening, and marched up Tryon street from the dopot, preceded by a brass band. They have come to t par ticipate in th celebration of the annlver sary of the two lodges of this order in this city to-day. ; " TJie Parade Yesterday. A fter all, defying the mclemenjalhcr, j the Cadets of the . Cape Fear MUltary ' Academy, under command jf the Princi pal, Maj. Burgess, concluded to braTO the elements and parade yesterday afternoon which they did to the delight of all be holders. The little fellows (and some of them are bigger than we are) presented a splendid appearance. They were without arms, but the precision with whfeb the executed the marching movements called forth many expressions of approval. ; Fine Tobacco. Attention is invited to 'the advertise- r 1 meut of Mr. H Burkhimer as it appears in this issue. He has just received a large lot of beautiful tobacco, of approved brands, which he is prepared to offer to the trade, as well as to consumers, on very fa vorable terms. Mr. Burkimer's estab lishment is the oldest tobacco house in the State and all who trade with him may rest satisfied that everything will bo found as represented. U. S. District court. The following cases were disposed of by tho United States District Court this morning: N. B. Taylor, retailing liquor without a license. Case continued. Same for peddling also continued. John Dodge, judgment nisi. Peter Evans, col., retailing liquor with out license. Guilty. Chas. R. Lawton, embozzeling money from Post Office at Magnolia. Submitted. Francis Faulk, for distilling liquor without giving proper bond. Acquitted. A Decision Rendered. The case of the Bank of New Hanover vs. Williams, Black & Co., which, has been pending in the Superior Court here ever since last Thursday morning, was brought to a decision here this morning by a decision from the Bench in favor of the defendants. Judgo Moore, in announc ing ths decision, said in preface that he would make no remarks on the merits of the case but would simply find for the defendants. The case will be appealed to the Supreme Court. The amount involv ed was originally but little less than $3,000 but the interest and costs will probably increase it to nearly $5,000.
