An important Movement.
We have been favored, through the
courtesy of Dr. Thomas F. Wood, of this
city, Secretary of the State Board o
Health, with an advance copy of thtf
blanks which are to be furnished to every
physician throughout the country, in
which are to be recorded the age, occupa
tion, sex, social position, race, date and
cause of death of every person, daring
the year, to whom they have rendered
medical attendance. These blanks when
thus filled out, to embrace the year com
mencing on the 1st day of June, 1879
and ending on the Slst day of May, 1880
both inclusive, are to be forwarded to th
Superintendent of the Census, to be used
in obtaining mors complete and accurate
mortuary statistices than have heretofore
been given, and to be made a part of the
census report which is to be made in
1880. This plan was rery urgently re
commended to the American Medical
Association, and at tho lare convention of
that body at Atlanta, Ga , resolutions
giving the fullest e jdorsen t to the meas
ure were unanimously adopted. All the
expense incident to the carrying out of the
plan, save the mere act of filling 1 ont the
blanks, will be paid by the government
and any money paid ont for stamps or in
other correspondence legitimately arising
from this service will be immediately re-

That active little steam tug, the Wm

an hour this afternoon, in which she was
trying to move a deeply laden barque
down the harbor, but which from some
cause seemed reluctant to move. After
a succession of efforts, however, the tug
was victorious, and moved the vessel off

The Day We Used to Celebrate.
The Fourth of July, which is just

We again invite attention to ythe play
which is te be presented by the Thalian
Amateurs at the Tileston Upper Room,

unusually acceptable manner.
Accidental.
This morning, about four o'clock, a per

Nutt, between Mulberry and Walnut
streets, was shot through the hand by a
small cartridge pistol. The man had got
ten up for the day and as he pulled the
pistol from under the pillow it was dis

hand. The wound was dressed and the
unfortunate fellow is as comfortable as
could be expected.
Sudden Death.
Mr. Archie Ramsay died very suddenly
of diptheria this morning at the residence
of Mr. David J. Joyner, on Harnett, be -tween
Third and Fourth streets. He had
been sick for three or four days, but had
not been considered critically ill. He was
out this moining and visited a drug store
for medicine, and was in the store of Mr .
J. W. Moody, on Fourth street, where he
had formerly been employed, but a very
few moment before he went to Mr. Joy
ner's, where he boarded, and in fifteen
minutes he was a corpse, death being
caused by strangulation. The deceased
was about 28 years of age, was unmarried,
and came from South Washington, Pen
der county, where his mother now resides,
his father being dead.
