Clly Court.
Alderman Bowden, Mayor pro
presiding, j
tuip.t
Simon Hulsey, colored, was arraigned
for disorderly conduct. The evidence of
t ie four policemen who conveyed the pris
oner to the Guard House was to the effect
that this morning, at 3 o'clock, In the
neighborhood of Hahn & Goodman's store,
the defendant was drunk and disorderly,
and when arrested resisted violently, cursing
and abusing the police officers in the vilest
manner possible, and causing them much
trouble to get the prisoner to the Guard
House, being compelled to carry him bod
lly. The sentence of the court was a fine
of $20 or thirty days in the city prison.
The defendant went below.
KIchard Bowden, colored, was the next
case on docket. Charge Drunk and dis
orderly. ! This proved another case of tur
bulence, though not so bad as the proceed
Ing one, and the acting Mayor was more
lenient, passing sentence of $2 50 fine or
thirty days in the city prison.
This concluded the docket, and the
Court adjourned. -
Bold Attempt at Robbery.
A thief made a bold attempt, about
4:30 this morning, at robbery on board
tha German Brig Licnen, lying at the
foot of Orange street. Capt. H. Drees
was asleep on a sofa in the cabin at the
time, the mate7 was sleeping In a hammock
on deck near the cabin door, and the
steward was asleep in a bunk in the mass
room. The thief toek a blanket from
under the head of the Captain and then
robbed him of his olothiag . and what
money was in his possession, and then
robbed the mate and steward in like man
ner. Ha was discovered juot as he was
going over the gangway, with his plunder
wrapped up In the stolen blanket, by
the carpenter,' who happened
to be on deck at the : time.
The latter immediately gave chase, but
the thirf dropped his bundle, and having
tae start, succeeded in making his escape.
Finding pursuit useless, the carpenter re
turned, picking up the bundle: of stolen
goods on his way, and went to work
trying to arouse the sleeping victims.
This he accemp'uherl after considerable
difficulty. When fairly awake, tbej all
complained of singular sensations, and ax
there was a strong odor of chloroform
about tbam, it is very certain that they
were subjected to its influence while the
thief engaged in his depredations. The
carpenter describes him as a black man,
wearing a frock coat, black hat, white
shirt, and was barefooted. ,
Fast Drlvlas;.
Tbe attsctlon of all concerned is ca lad
to the city ordinance relative to fast
driving, to be found in another column
of thisissue; tbey will govern themselves
accordingly. Some of tbe drayman who
have been in tbe habit of rushing through
tbe streets with nnseemfngly kaste are
warned that they must, ia the future,
"hold thsir horses" to a specified gait, or
take the consequences.

Creatine; a Dlstui bance and ReUst-
ins; Arrest.
Qaite an excitement was created this
morning at the corner of Princess and
North Water streets by the arrest of
Isaac Baker, one of the colored twin
brothers, well known at the Mayor's
Court, on account ef their frequent ap
pearance there. The fellow resisted ar
rest and fought manfully, biting the. of
ficer who made the arrest pretty severely
on the middle finger of the left hand.
He was soon overpowered, however, and
thrown upon a dray when the officer,'
snounting'j be raT iat square
down on the man to keep
kim in position, and in this manner he
was hauled to the Guard House with a
large crowd following in the wake. It
seems that Baker had been making
himself a nuisance to some of the offices
around tbe neighborhood referred to
above by bis noisy cursing and so forth.
when a gentleman ordered him off and
he refused to go, becoming very insolent
in manner and speech. A police officer
was sent for, with the result named above.
Acting Mayor Bowden will Interview the

A Sadden Change
There has been a sudden and a remark
able change in the weather to-day. Yes
terday was most unpleasantly warm, aj
hoagh tbe heat was in a measure re'ieved
by tbe bountiful breezes which prevailed.
To-day the thermometer has tended
slowly downward ever since noon, the
atmotphre gradually getting cooler and
cco'er until at this writing, (4 P. M. it
is down to 74, which is 20 degrees cooler
than it was yesterday. This is a most
remarkable change, even for the oool spell
in August, which, by the way, is what
tbe old folks will call this weather.
