"JUST IMAGINE HOW I FELT."

November 5th, I88I.3
Mv. Jos Person.
, . Franklinton, N. C.
Dear Madam: It is with pleasure
that I write to tell you that your valua
ble Remedy has entirely cured me of a
most fearful looking and painful soie on
any ankle. It came more than twelve
months ago, very much like a ring worm.
I painted it with Tinct. Iodine, until it
became a very painful and bad looking
place. Then I commenced to try every
thing I could think or hear of, until it
became so very painful I could scarcely
walk, when I went to the best doctor in
the country for advice. He told me
t could cure me if I would take my bed
and there remain for four or five weeks,
aad if I did not do so pretty soon, it
could not be cured at all, as the bone
would become diseased, and my foot
would have to be taken off. Just imag
ine how I felt, to be told there was no
cure for the sore but to lose my foot, or
give up all business either of these Re
medies would have ruined me. Mind
70a this was the advice of one of the best
doctors in the State of North Carolina,
and this conversation took place last
February. I continued to burn with
caustic, as he advised until September,
but derived no benefit from his treatment.
I was advised then by a friend to try
your Remedy, (Bitters and Wash) took
the first dose the 17th of September, and
I am now a well man, the sore is perfect
ly cured, and I can now walk as fur,
dance as much and jump as high as any
Ban you know. Pat me back to the 1st
of September, let me know as much as I
now do of the virtue of your Remedy,
and I would not hesitate to pay tea dol
lars a bottle for it, if I could not get it
for less. I think more of it than any
medicine in the world. It is not only
tht best Remedy to purify the blood and
care all skin diseases, but I believe it will
cure all kinds of blood diseases, and I
kiow it will cure a love for strong drink.
I hope yon will havej this published, a3
there are many sufferers who could be
cured, if they could knowcf and get your
Remedy I am truly and respectfully,

We visited the County Poor House

other necessaries.
We also visited the County Jail and
found it is not in as cleanly a condition
as It should be ; and wo also fomnd that
some necessary repairs are needed. We
would recommend that the plastering in
the rooms be repaired and that the cells
and house generally inside be whitewash

prisoners be allowed more comfortable

Cold Feet and Sleeplessness.
The association between cold feet
and sleeplessness is much closer than
is commonly imagined. Persons with
cold feet' rarely sleep well.
especially women; yet the num
ber 01 persons trouoiea is very con
siderable. This is the plan to adopt with
cold feet: They should be dipped in
cold water for a brief period. Often just
to immerse them and no more is suffi.
cient;and then they should be rubbed
ith & pir of hair-flesh gloves, or a
rough Turkish towel, till they glow; im
mediately after getting into bed. After
this a hot water Iwttle will be successful
in maintaining thO temperature of the
feet, though without this preliminary it
is impotent to attempt to do fo. Disa
greeable as the plan at first may appear,
it is efficient, and these who have once
fairly tried it continue it, and find that
they have put an'eud to bad night3 and
cold feet. Pills, potions, lozenges,
"nightcaps" and all narcotics fail to
enable the sufferer to woo sleep success
fully; get rid of the cold feet and the
steep will come of itself.
For the Review.
The Rice Market
What makes it dull and low at the
present time? for it seems to be so at the
largest market" for what is known as
"Carolina Rice." Here
in
savannah
there is very little rice of the higher
grades such as yu Cape Fear people
make changing hands. The lower
grades are at times quite lively at the
standard rates for such rice: 93 cents to
$1 25 for rough upland. Tidewater
is held at $1 50 to$l 70 and few buyers,
although every one believes there will be
an advance in price after Christmas,
when it has been fully demonstrated
that the kcrop of good rice is short.
We all know it 1 is short and
that the prices must advance! Nowhere
has the crop been larger than it was last
year, and the "Carolina rice" has suffered
a severe loss, especially in the higher
grades, yet the "bears" are holding back
to see how many farmers can be forced
to sell at a reduced price. This is good
"human nature," but bad for commercial
prosperity. Last year they held the
market down down all the season under
a belief that the crop was large: that
Louisiana had made 250,000 barrels and
that would leave a surplus on hand.
When the milling season was over, how
ever, there was found to be no stock on
hand, and prices advanced two cents a
pound ! That state of things caused the
market fcr new rice to open high and so
much higher than usual 8 J cents for
good grades that it has receded and
now the market seems to be demoralized.
Stocks arewithdrawn from the market
here under a confident belief that an ad
vance will be made at no distant day.
Your planters should, if they can, hold
their rice. They can, by sendingjit here
or to other mills, get an advance on its
value of, say $1 a bushel tor good rice,
and take advantage of the future market
by paying interest at the rate of 8 per
cent, on advances. Planters have some
rights that should be' respected. Specu
lators may "corner" the crop, but with
the rice mills to assist the planters, they
will hardly make a very large fortune
out of the crop of 1881 of
Carolina Rice.
