Laurinburg Enterprise : Mr. John F. McLaurin has recently erected a steau saw mill on what is known as the "new road " about one and a half miles north east from town, and has it in successful operation, Mr.t A. R. Autry. a gentleman from Cumberland county, has located, here, with his family, bought a building lot near tho railroad, erected a mill houso, and next week will have his mill in operation. i Durham Plant: A little six-year-old girl in Greensboro has not missed an at tendance at Sunday School in 18 months. She belongs to the Presbyterian school. -John Tuckett, a Canadian who has resided in Durham several years past buying leaf tobacco for a'large manufac turing establishment in Canada, of which his brother was at the head, died at the Grand Central Hotel Sunday night of pulmonary consumption. Daniels, was burned; last Saturday night Suspicion pointed to Neil Locklear, who had been ejectedi from the house the previous day, and this suspicion was further confirmed by hia (jLocklear's) having been seen on that same day night going toward the house with a lighted torch and an armful of lightwood. A preliminary examina tion of the case was bad last Aionday before Esvuire J. A. McAllister,, and in defaultlof a justified bond of $50 he and his son Amos were sent to jail. I Charlotte Observer: MrJ M. M. Yan d!e, of Pineville, yesterday brought to the Observer office a turnip of1 the golden ball variety, which weighs 84 pounds and measures 28 inches around one way, and 24 the otner. Mr. W. J.French a celebrated rifle shot, 'has been in: the city for several days, and hs soon as the weather is suitable will give an exhibition ot glass ball shooting with the rifle, which will be a treat to , those interested in this class of sports 1 Yesterday evening between four and five o'clock three pistol shots fired in : rapid succession on the railroad near Aebury's planing mills attracted the attention of those in the vicinity, and on proceeding to the place it was found that Martin Orr, Jr.t a negro man some twenty years, old, had: shot Sue Adams, a bright-mulatto wpman, and it was thought at first that the' woman was fatally wounded. Orr fired three shots at the woman, two of which took effect, oho in the left side about on a level with the hip Joint, and the other in the right thigh. A physician who visited the three persons attacked, pronounced the disease meas-' les. Thus far this year forty four sheriffs have settled. A serious accident happened to a Mr Frank Sherron, who resides a few miles from Enfield. On Wednesday, the 11th in3t, as be was riding in a cart on his way home, and in an intoxicated con dition, he feW to the ground on his head. He was carried home insensible, and it is the opinion of his physician, that his ceck was broken. He died -daring the night. i A correspondent from Tar- boro writes: On last Friday,. between 7 and 8 o'clock in the mcrning, Joseph Feldenheimer disappeared from his resi dence in this place, and has not since been seen by any one. Grave apprehensions exist with bis family and friend as to his whereabouts. He has a wife and four very interesting children. lie was about forty-seven years old.
