New York World: Mr. Ransom
asked the Secato yesterday to appropri
ate $100,000 for the cyclone sufferers of
the South, but bis resolution was refer
red. It will have to be weighed because
the money is to bo-distributed in the
South. John Sherman ought to have
the cyclone investigated with a view to
ascertaining whether it treated blacks
and whites impartially. It may have
been a Democratic cyclone directed es
pecially against "nigzers."

Gross Carelessness.
A serious accident nearly happened

driving in a buggy, having just started
for the Sound, when they were run into

one wheel was so badly shattered that

thrown to the ground. ' Fortunately,
