The New Orleans Times-Democrat says there will come to the World's Exposition in that city from the City of 'Mexico some two hundred- picked members of the Mexican Itural Guards, a body of mounted men, whoso brilliant uniforms and richly caparisoned milk white chargers will form a unique and .picturesquo military display. Each member of the Rural Guards is obliged, under the arniy regulations, to provide for his own horse, an t in the selection and care of the animal he puis f rth his best endeavor. The animal chosen must not'only be without a speck to mar the wnitencss of hi glossy white coat, but must also combine the quali ties of strength, agility and endurance. Senor Ibarola, the Mexican exposi'ion commissioner, does not believe that there is another troupe of cava'rjuien' in tbe world, the hi rses of which will compare with those of the Mexican Rural Guards. There Lave been seasous of greater excitement and agitatioji,' but never of such sustained and ruinous depression. Editor Dana, of the New York Sun, is a journalistic rata avis '. His opih ions ol public men count for little with those whq know him. In his estimates, of them he is as whimsical as the" variable winds, and although he praises or condemns with monotonous presistence his capricious taste is soon satisfied with any di3b, whether it be turkey or crow. Iu or der to defeat Mr. Bayard for the nomi nation at a previous convention, with fatal memory he recalled hi3 Dover speech and gave it to the country through the columns of that junk-slfop of the American press, the Sim, that "shines for all." Bayard was defeated and Dana was happy. Now, when he clamors for the noble Senator from Delaware, as if by the logical sarcasm of retribution, the opposition very dexterously punctures him with his own weapon. It is a homely but wise saying: Curses like chickens come home to roost." Claim'ng to be a Democrat he knifed the koightliest soldier and most gallant gentleman of the North. Han cock 'the superb." with the mean con temptible fling "a clever gentleman weighing 240 pounds," and that too when the opposition was led by a man who for years, with cukooo monotony. he was wont to style the Rev. DeGolyar" Garrield. To-day, when the Democratic party is girdiu itself to again uo battle lor constitutional liberty he i? mischievously engaged in tarnishing the munitons of war to. the enemy. A pebble in the streamlet scan?, Has chanzed the course of manv a river. A dewdrop on the tiny plant Has warped the weighty oak -torevcrj By unearthing that Dover speech Charlc3 A. Dana did Mr. B.ayard an inju ry which he cannot, repair though he shed ink like water in his behalf. Mr. Dana, like some very skijllul physicians, loses his-head when he es says to doctor his own political family. His treatment is heroic aud better suited to sickenins a foe than curing a friend. The Soutii is Democratic from princi ple, interest and n'cessi,y. and for twenty-five yf ars she has borno ihe heat and harden of the day," but she is beginning to grow restive under the rule ot such marplots as Dana and Kel- ley. Mr. Dana is wondei fully gifted in the cheip wisdom of retrospection and wo have no doubt that he will yet ILvo to see that his utterances ot to-day are not, entirely oracular. .:.H-jClla:;i:ou3.- Honest OJU Abe.
