The Seaside Park Base Ball Club have some thought ot going to Raleigh on the 29th inst , but have not yet made up their minds fully whether to go or not. Guy Wright's band was out again last night at the head of some sort of a 'procession which paraded the city from the vicinity ol Seventh and Walnut to the Southeastern suburbs. The schooner Eslella Day, Capt. There was somo kind of religious Ceremony going on last night 'at ft colored church on Seventh street, which aroused the entire neighborhood. N. C. Slight Fire. There was a slight fire in the dwelling of John Nolan, colored, on Sixth street, between Walnut and Red Cross, at about i:30 o'clock yesterdayafter noon. No alarm was given, and the flames were extinguished by the applfj cation of a few buckets full of water. Damage slight. City Court. Old Hundred. . The match game of Old Hundred, between the Benedict and Bachelor Clubs, of this city, mention of which we made a few days since, will be played at Seaside Park next Friday af ternoon. It wiil undoubtedly draw a large concourse ot spectators and wiP be a hotly contested game. There will be a concert on the same night at the Seaside Park Hotel, at which Mrs. Kahnweiler will sing, besides which there will oe other vocal and instru mental music . Another Slisrlit Fire. About 2 :30 o'clock this alternoon fire was discovered in the two-story frame tenement house on the corner of Queen and Surry streets, occupied by several colored families. The alarm was promptly given and the fire department quickly en route for the scene, but when they reached there the flames had been extinguished bp the judicious applica tion of a few buckets full of water. The damage was very slight. . A Suggestion. Our attention hus been called to the fact that, in cases where persons die in this city and their remains are convey ed to some other place for interment, no physician's certificate is required and consequently no record is kept. When persons dying within the city are buried jn either of our cemeteries a physician's certificate, with cause ot death, age, 6cc, is necessary, ana it seems to. us that there should, in order to make the vital statistics of the city correct, be the same formality in the case of all who die here whether they are interred within the city or elsewhere. It is very probable that the entertainment will be heightened by good music, either from the Cornet Concert Club or from some other source, and that a large and liberal-heaited assemblage may greet and reward the Ladies' Memorial As sociation for their efforts in such a good cause. A Hitch Somewhere. As was stated by us at the time, the Republicans faild to hold their Con gressional Convention at Rockingham last Wednesday, according to announce ment. We have endeavored to find out the true inwardness ot the thing, but our Republican friends here are not inclined to talk about it. The' Charlotte Observer gives the following as throw ing some light on the matter: - The convention of the Republicans of this district to nominate a Congress man in opposition to JudgeBennett was to haye been held at Rockingham last Wednesday, but there was an obstruc tion in the way in the shape ot Dr. Norment. He held up his hand and the convention went by default. It seems that Dr. Norment was not treat ed fairly in the convention at Laurin bunr, and he determined to be heard this time It did not suit him for the Congressional conyention to meet at Rockingham last' Wednesday and he gave notice that he did not want to prove a disturbing element, and that in the interests of unity and peace the meeting would have to be postponed. He proposed that if the late Lauriu burg convention would be permitted to assemble at Rockingham just as it was, to nominate a Congressional candidate, that he would, give no further trouble. The convention was accordingly post poned indefinitely, and just what is going to be done next is not exactly known. List of Letters.
