A Pittsburg prophet makes thea?ser
tion that in fifty years, perhaps in
twenty-five, coal will not bo carried
from- the mines to its places of destina
tion in bulk, but only its actual heat
energy transported, and that by wire.
Thi process, he say?, can bo accom
plished by converting the coal into
heat, the heat into moiion and the
motion into e'ectricitv. A storacrG
batiery at Cincinnati would take it up
as ast us generated at tne mines.
From this battery it could be taken oul
and converted back into motion and
heat, or changed into lhrht. It is only
a matter of time, perhaps, until this
and siill more wonderful things are
done; And to-day, we are told. Edison
is working upon some such idea as tbe
above.
