Every man owes a duty to his party and it i3 a duty that should be paid cheerfully and with alacrity. The bal- ". 5q nnf. nnlv fhn. nr:v51oro nnrl nrprrtcr. alive of the American freeman, but it is an imperative obligation as well. A man may have a right to neglect his own interests, but not 'those of his neighbors, and when he refuses or neg lects to register and vote he is imperil ing the interests of his neighbors as well as his own. Good government is a ben eficent boom and yet it is not in this country a boom accorded by Heaven but one secured by the acts of JJ13 peo ple. Providence finds the method but the people must themselves furnish the means. Hence we look upon it as al most a crime for a man who can vote to stay away froni the polls on elec tion day, either through an indifference as to the result or through pver confidence that any present ex ertion on his own part will not be need ed by his party. "One vote don't count" is the most pernicious reason ing imaginable; in fact, it is not reason ing at all but the merest sophistry to blindfone's own conscience as to the possible effects of one's own acts. In North Carolina every vote will be needed on election day and every vote will tell. We can not' afford to take any risks, and every man who slays away from the polls on hat day is taking a risk that may re sult in disaster. The following, from the Goldsboro Messenger, will be found very pertinent to this subject: i Notwithstanding he many cheering indications daily rceceived from all pans ol the State of victory for the Democracy or rather to the whita man's party ot North Carolina we feel called upon to warn cur friends, here threatens in over-confidence. - We must make assurance doubly sure by an ef fective concentration of action, which will bring out every Democratic voter in 'the State. Our opponents are active. They are completely or ganized. Their 100,000 negroes present a solid phalanx. Their opposition to the white race is lullj aroused. The issue is too transcendantly important to permit the prospects ot success, however brilliant, to lull us into supineness. The Radical party, as everybody kuows, onco brought us to the brink of revolution and bankruptcy. Need we point to the drk days of ISeS- and '70. when corruption reigned supreme in the State, when tyranny and despot ism ruled, when innocent men were thrown into loathsome dungeons, when infamous cutthroats were employed to kill leading Democratic citizens of the State? Need we pdint to the millions stoleafrom the treasury? Need we re call the disturbed State of our society when tlte torch and ravisher stalked ah over tne State? Need we point to the general distrust and insecurity then prevailing on all sides to the infamous Kirk War, to the suspension of the of the sacred writ of habeas corpus and the exhaustion of the Judiciary? These times and crimes are still so fresh in the minds of our people that it is only necessary to., remind them of them. Then forewarned is lorearmed! To return this State into the hands of the Republican party means a return to all this and more. And should they regain that power it would then" bo more ban impjissible for us to ever re gain our liberties and prosperity J Wo must, therefore, use every honorable means to roll up such decisive majou ties that the infamous party will .never again offer itself in a contest tor State supremacy. - The honest white people cannot be unaware of the fearful risk they run by indifference or by x countenancing any one of the Republican candidates. No matter how clever they may pf , each and every xnother's son of them is the exponent antjj representative 'of that terribly corrupt party. To prevent the possibility of a renewal of the limes above portrayed; a return to Radi cal extravagance and corruption; to prevent the utter demoralization ot our society and a return to lawlessness and tyranny, we must have a large Democratic majority in'tbe Legisla ture! We must have n honest Gov ernor and honest State officials! We must have Democratic county officer! We must carry the State by such over whelming majority that it will strike terror in the souls of the conspi rators, who are now aiming at the usurpation of power. This we have no doubt, we will bo able to accomplish, bnt we cm do o only by a united effort by timely cop cert of action. Let every while man enroll himself under the white man's banner.
