precincts, assures a pretty fail vote tor
both parties, and in many precincts the
Democrats hare made gains. Vane
cccinty is safe for the entire Democrat
ic county ticket. There were over
two hundred and twenty-five boxes
of Gsh came up by express from More
head last Saturday morning. Of this
number thirteen dray 1-ads, 10'J boxes,
were transferred by Mr. I . E. Smith
and his. force irom the Atlantic to the
W. & W. express car in twelve min
utes. Mr.Srnith beat his former fast re
cord in this instance.

words with him. Mr. Jenkins com
menced advising'the colored man not
to vote for York and his lecture be
came somewhat animated. A crowd
of darkies, seeing their former Repub
lican friends in the midst of what ap
peared to be a heated debate quickly
collected. The larger the crowd be
came the warmer Mr. Jenkins grew,
and they say that he almost smoked,
he was soTiot. He gave the darkies
sound and emphatic ant i-York talk,
and did it in a warm and positive man-
,ner.
Raleigh Visitor: The residence, to
gether with nearly ell the furniture,

this cily. was entirely destroyed by lire

ed over 2 500 passengers daily, there

time."- That's another thing to be
proud of.
Friday night at Dur-
ham there was the grandest parade and
demonstration ever known tnere. The
occasion was the reception of Col. Dun
can McRae. There was a torchlight
procession, m whx-h 1,500 men partici
pated. At Stokes7 hall the speaking
took place. The hall was unable to
contain over a third of the great audi
ence of some three thousand or more
Culi McRae was introduced by Capt.
John S. Lockart, the energetic chair
man ol the county Democratic execu
tive committee. Capt. Lockart'a
speech was full of good Democracy and
njjnt to the point. CJol. McKae s speech
was a brilliant effort, and consumed
two- hours in its delivery. Durham
has scored another grand success.
