Dr. W. T. Ennet, of Burgaw, Pen:

Mr. Thomas W. Strange, after an
absence of about ten days on a trip to
the North, arrived here Tuesday morn
ing. During his absence he made a
flying visit to Albany, where he had
the plasure of meeting with President
elect, Cleveland. Mr. Strange was an
earnest advocate of Mr. Cleveland's
nomination for the Presidency at the
National Convention and worked faith
fully to secure his election after he was
nominated, and that having been ac
complisbed he had a strong desire to
see the man for whom his labor and
vote bad been given. Mr. Strange re

his short .interview with the President-elect.
In the course of tho
conversation President Cleveland stated
that he desired to visit the South, and
would do so be fore Ion j, if he could. The
President spoke of the great importance
to the country of the election, and
stated it would probably give the Dem

Mr Strange, while absent, saw and

, Yesterday -afternoon Chief of Police
Broyk receired a teTSgrani from Toron
to, Canada, requesting that, it George
E. Wingate should stop in the city, to
arrest him, and also giving a descrip

so well with tho description given of
Wingate that Capt. Brock caused him
to be arrested last night, and immedi
ately telegraphed toj Toronto of the
fact and asked for instruction. Dodd
also sent a telegram last night to which
he received a reply this morning
the contents of which are known
only to himself. The charge upon
which he was arrested was the embez
ziement of $0,430 from the North Brit

his arrest quite composedly and rather
made light of the affair, stating to the
oflicars that it would be all right.
Capt. Brock received a dispatch from
the Chief of Police of Toronto this
orenoon stating that Dcdu wa3 not the
man wanted and, consequently, he was

A man giving his name as Cashman
and who is engaged in lecturing -and
selling a book on the diseases of horses
and cattle, called at the City Hall
ye3terday, and in the course of conver
sation stated that he knew a man from
tbis city named Thomas Hansley who
ied in Wiscansin a year or two ago,
leaving an estate valued at $165 000.
He further stated that be found
Hansley a poor man and loaned him
some money, with which he went to
Pennsylvania aud made S80.000 in the
course of two or three days, and divi
ded the profits with Cashncan, giving
the latter $40 000 for the use of the
money. As Hansley formerly resid d
in this city and has a wife now living
in Smithville, besides other relatives
here and in this vicinity, such a revela
tion caused considerable excitement
and a good deal of speculation, but
there is so much of uncertainity in the
matter that we do not believe it wonld
bo wise to place much reliance upon
any imaginary inheritance.
