APRILS. 1&38. Enternl at the lostofnee at Wilmington, N.G, ra.s second-class matter. New York society is agreeably ex- citel over the llief that tlie Presi dent arnl Mr. (Jleveland will come there and attend the unique and ultra" - fashionable entertainment styled ''Fashing Thursday in Ve nice," which is to coyer a period of two days in the Metrojolitan Opera House. Mrs. Chauncey M. Depew, chairman of the Committee of Ar - ranrfei uents, has sent a personal in vitation to the hTesulent anu nis wife, and it is understood that a special train will bring the distin guished guests to New York City on April 10th. The managers of "Fash ing Thursday" promise that it will be the most elegant entertainment vet criven in New York. Some idea of the degree of elegance may be tr leaned from the statement that about $100,000 is to be expended by the individual participants for cos tumes, stage furniture and twrsonal adormuent. 1 The Washiugton correspondent of the New York Herald says: "It is not improbable that PresidentCleye- Innd iiiav. nt un ea"rlv da v. send a special message to Congress askinj the passage of a bill to form a com mission whose duty it shall be to re vise and codify the present pensions lawg. This commission will consist of live irentlemen. and none of them shall be members of either branch of Comrress. They will be ready to report the result of their labors in December next. Thik in brief, is an outline of a oronosiVrOii that has Uvii mude to the President and in which he has evinced the liveliest interest. Por some tune past neuas felt that the inequalities in the pen- sum j.tws ouirnt to ue sniooineu a a. .a a away; that certain pension.-, ought to be increased and certain others decreased, according to the merit of the pensioner. It has been repre sented to linn that uch Jt revision of the law would redound greatly to the credit of his Administration, and tlue whohave interested them selves in the matter believe that the suggestion will be speedily acted upon 7 If the coining of Spring is all that has been waited for by Russia be fore developing her Halkati policy its disclosure cannot be far off. Per haps a first step in this development may be traced in the reported re quest made of other powers to with draw their diplomatic representa tives from Bulgaria because the principality has refused to reply to Turkey's note declaring that Prince Ferdinand's assumption of power is illegal. Hut Russia has several times before made requests on this subject which the other powers found them. selves unable to grant. In one re cent instance she wished England t join in declaring that Prince Fer dinand must "go," . but England very judiciously declined to do so until the powers should first agree who was to come in Ferdinand's place. Illegality is bad enough, but anarchy may be worse. Bulgaria, on her part, has no found ques tions to ask, one of them being why Turkey i putting troops in the town of Mustapha Pasha. This latter is directly on the border of Eastern Roumelia, and the presence of Turk-j ish troops there seems to point to more activity in the Balkan problem with the opening of Spring. The New York Herald reports that on Tuesday last the Sugar Trust declared a dividend of 2$ per cent, for the first five months of its existence. This is a dividend upon a certiucate capital or $45,000,000, and as this certificate capital repre sents an actual investment of about $l000,000, the dividend declared in dicates an annual rate of at least 18 per cent, upon the last named sum. The advance in the price of refined sugar since the 'Trust was formed shows that the Trust's profits surely have not been less than the $1,125,- 000 divided on Tuesday. On Octo ber 1st the quoted price of cut loaf and erushed sugars was 6 7-lfl cents, and it is now 73 an advance nf 1 5-16 cents. The quoted price of graaulated is of a centhigher than it was on that date. v And. while the Trust is getting higher prices for its product, it has actually reduced the price of its raw material, for the prices of fair refining and centrifu gal sugars are lower now than they were when the Trust began its work. An extra profit of one cent, a pound on three-quarters of the sugar con sumed In this country is more than $23,000,000 a year. Probably the Trust will increase Its dividends bv and by, after Congress shall have adjourned. 1 Oar fanners will rejoice to lexim Superior Court of North CaroUna - !... :f tlAw of tlluf Wn 1oAMa.1 I iwMr nnr. Gentlemen I have been afflicted with ulceration - of the legs ever since' I wass8 t child, the disease undoubtedly being here- -ditary, as my mother suffered from scroful-. -ous symptoms. As I advanced to manhood my affliction increased until the malady became harrasslug and painful beyond the power of words to describe. ; My right leg Jarticularly became fearfully involved, the eft leg being less pain fully affected. Finally, about fourteen years ago, the ulcers on my right leg had eaten through the flesh into the bone. In order to pave my life the doc tors determined to amputate my leg below the knee. The operation was successfully performed bv Dr. If. V. JI. Miller, of Atlanta, and Dr. W. P. Band, of Lithonia, But the -- loss of my leg gave me only temporary re lief. The poison was still in my system and . soon began to-show itself again. In a short time after large ulce rs appeared on my left leg, covering it from the knee to the instep. Frequently while at work I could be tracked -. by the blood wiiich oozed from the hugo ulcers, and the sores and rottening holes were so offensive that my fellow-workmen could not stand the stench anu would move away from mz. . - Last vinter I was persuaded to try S. S. S. -As a last effort I consented to do so, and about seven montns ago I began taking tne Specinc. i soon bega n to reel tee good effects of the medicine, tlie offensive running began to grow less and less and finally ceased, the ulcers healed, my flesh became firm and solid, and today, after using twenty-one bottles, I am as hale and stout a man of my age as there is in Ge orgia. I am seventy-one years old, but feel now youDger and stronger than I did when I was twenty-five. I weigh about 170 pounds. Nothing is to be geen of the terrible disease, or to remind me of the torture I suffered for so many years, except, the scars of the perfectly healed ulcers. I want the world to know of the almost miraculous cure effected on me by S. 8. S., and I call upon those who wish to know the particulars directly from me to write, and I will consider it a pleasure as well as atluty to answer their letters. I refer to Dr. W. P. Bond, of Lithonia, as to tho truth of my ' statement. Very gratefully yours,- t IS. Drake. Treatise on Blood and Skin Diseases mailed, free. .
