Y., caused one of the most exciting scenes ever witnessed in a Conference.' The committee renort stronely favored i the third party. Its first resolution was in favor of repealing all leg Na tive action respecting licenses and denounced hlh license as a fraud. Another resolution bound every member of the Conference to vote onlvthe Prohibition ticket. Another called upon the Legislature to enact H ltnral option bill. A dozen .mem bers were on their feet at once. Prof. Crooks, of Drew Seminary, de nounced the resolution as a bid for the free and unrestricted sale of linuor. J. Rhevth Thompson, of a W a New York, said he would penuit no Conference to tell him how he should vote. The scene was a wild one. Members stood on the floor and ap plauded the remarks of the speak ers. Allien leehntr was manifested, and finally the report was commit ted for further consideration. ful snoony. Free Pres. IOO Doses Oho Dollar dec 10 lyr d&wnrm ; mws2dp On the 15th of July next a series of public services will begin at Marietta, Ohio, in commemoration of the establishment of the first civil government of the Northwest Ter ritory a hundred years before. On the 7th of April, 1788, a band of sur veyors and others from New Eng land, under the leadership of Gen. Putnam, landed at the present site of Marietta to prepare the .way for the colonists that were to establish themselves there under the auspices of the Ohio company. These colon ists were c imposed of soldiers of the Revolution, to whom the Conti nental Congress had granted lands in the then wild region of the North west Territory, part of which had originally been claimed to Virginia, but was ceded by her to the Federal Government, and became ' thence forward public domain. That part of the Territory known as the West ern Reserve was claimed by Cpnnec ticut, and Massachusetts and New York also had set up claims under several grants, but. they all united in traasferring.tolhe Federal Gov ernment whatever rights they may have had, and under the ordinance of 17S7, a civil government was es tablished for the Territory north west of the Ohio river, and Gen. Ar thur St. Clair appointed the first Governor in July, 1788. ;Jn Decem ber of the same year, a settlement was made on the present site of Cin cinnati. As Marietta; had prece dence of all other settlements, it was proper that the centennial celebra tion of the founding of Ohio should take place there. The celebration promises to be a great affair. The exercises will include an address of welcome by Governor Foraker, an oration by Senator Hoar, of Massa chusetts, an address by ex-President Hayes, an oration by the Hon. J. Randolph Tuoker, of Virginia, and addresses by Senator Sherman and others, closing ' with a general reception at the City Hall. It is proposed to give the event a na tional character and to carry it oui with imposing ceremonies. A. &afe Itviitiun. When I began with Swift's Specific I was in very poor health, and could hardly ' drag about. After I had finished the course of 8. S. S. I was strong and buoyant, and had a good appetite. 1 1 regard it as a most, valuable medicine far ladies in weak, dell- ' ente health. It is a household medicine with me. i - lYours respectfully. Last sen began a course of S. S. S.. which I have con tlnued to the present time with the happiest result. The cancer has entirely disappeared, there being no evidence or symptom of a cancerous character left. Sly general health is good now, and my jappetite Detter than it has been in years. I am 82 years old, and t o-day I am working in the field planting corn. Tours truly, i, JojfAS Limebach, Gentlemen I had a sore On my upper Up for eight years. Seven different doctors at tempted in vain to heal it. One gave me a . small vial for five dollars, which was a " cer tain cure." It is needless to say that it did me no good. About two years ago I became' -quit uneasy, as people thought 1 had a can cer, and I took a coarse of eighteen bottles of S. S. S. The result has been a complete cure. The ulcer ! or cancer healed beautiful-, ly, leaving scarcely a perceptible scar. From ; that day Ihave been in excellent health, the Specific having purified my blood thorough, ly, increased my appetite and perfected my digestion. In a word, I feel like a new woman, and, best of all, the eight year ulcer Is gone entirely.! Tours sincerely, - i j Mrs. W. P. Cakhow. , Trenton, Todd Co., Ky., Feb. 25, 1887.
