Congressional Convention. We alluded yesterday to the fact of Maj. McClammy's nomination at Go-dsboro by acclamation. The Convention adjourned late in the af ternoon and the following is a syn opsis of the proceedings is condens ed from the official report: N The convention was called to or der by Hon. D. H. McLean, chair man of the District Executive Com mittee, and was temporarily organ ized by calling Hon. E. W. Kerr, of Clinton, to the chair, and Messrs. Joseph E. Robinson, V. E. Murchi son and R.' S. White were requested to act as secretaries. I v.' The usual committees vere ap pointed and submitted reports, as follows: Committee on Credentials No contests. Committee on Permanent Oagani zation: To make the temporary or gauization permanent. Whereupon Air. Kerr, in a brief but enthusiastic speech, tendered his thanks to the Convention for the honor conferred upon him, counseled harmony in the deliberations, and predicted a glori ous victory for Democracy in No vember next. His speech was re ceived. with rousing applause. The Committee on! Rules recom- rule, which mended the majority was adopted. J The Committee on Resolutions submitted the following report, which was enthusiastically received and unanimously adopted: Resolved, That the administration of Grover Cleveland meets our cor dial approbation, and we desire to see him again nominated and elected. Resolved. That we do not deem any enunciation as to National af fairs necessary at this time, knowing that our State and National Conven tions will not violate the cardinal principles of Democracy, but will make such platforms as all loyal and true Democrats can stand upon. On motion of Mr.lC. B. Aycock, the Convention proceeded to enter tain nominations for Congressmen. Mr. A. C. Hugcins, of Onslow, put in nomination Hon. W; J. Green, of Cumberland, whereupon Mr. Green claimed the attention of the chair to withdraw his name, and after an el oquent testimonial to the high statesmanship and untiring party service of Maj. C. W. McClammy, of Pender, the present efficient repre sentative. placed that gentleman's name before the Convention and moved that he be renominated by acclamation.
