I FOLK, It Heui that the women of Eng land are in a bad wav a.- regards a C drink. We Are loth to believe this, but Dr. Iinlach lias informed the British Medical Association that women drink to excess as much ay men, and that In Liverpool it is the wived who drink, and not among the vicious classes alone. The use of opium, chloral ami other narcot ic is much more prevalent among women than among men. Women, however, have n better excuse for their excesses than the other sex. They drink, as a rule, because they have pome worrying ailment, and keep on until the habit is Fettled upon them. With narcotics the be ginning of the abuse is generally traceable, say Dr. Imlacb, to medi cal prescriptions. Miss Broadbent, the well known missionary of the Church Temperance Society, says a correspondent of the New York Sun, gives tho interesting fact that tho women often drink heavily, the most continued drunkards among them are seldom attacked with de lirium tremens. She declares that she has not seen a single instance of this disease among womeu during the last twelve months, although she has visited many cases of drink" Ing women. It is charged that the stage route and the hotels, built at the State's ex pense, are leased to favorites of the ring and allowed to charge exorbi tant tolls. Persons entering the val ley by other means thau the coin-, pany's stages, which .charge $50 for the trip, are compelled to pay such tolls, and are charged with such ex tras at the hotels and for the use o guides as to discourage all interferr ence with the mononoK Om lull of these charges presented by the stogo company ,to a single party amourfts to 47.
