OnMonday andTuesday nights the above, realistic drama will . be pre sented to the citizens of Wilmington. The company are now bound South ward on a tour. They have played in the cities of Virginia and to large houses. They were in Norfolk last Monday and the Virginian has this to say of their appearance there: The "Streets of New York" was presented last night at the Academy, of Music in grand style. Kilday's conception of Tom Badger is novel anil realistic, . much better than Frank Mayo's version. The whole piece shapes different, and brings the' inany characters out better. M&g-Llbbie Kirke, as' Bob. the Boot Black, was natural, ami her song, "Can You Tell Me the Reason Why? ' made a decided "hit. Miss Laura Pahuer,s as Aluda Bloodgood, the heartless coquette, and Mrs. Fair weather, showed her versatility as an- excellent actress. Frank I. Frayne, Jr., as Dan, did his part up in histrionic style, a chip of the old block, x Edgar Owens, as Gideon Bloodgood, brought out the full merit of the part. In fact it is a good company. The fire scene in the fifth act was natural, real fire men and hose carriage right from our department, Jules S. Kussel, the manager, can congratulate himself in having a good piece and a first-class company to present it. The house was crowd ed last nightaloft and well-filled be low, and should be so to-night, as the piece presents a picture of New Y ork and trials of the poor. Qran'i Fine Company. Millocker's opera, "The Black Hussar," was presented last night at the Opera House by the Jules Gran Opera Company to a fairly large audience. The company is a good one. The principal characters were well sustained and to the thorough satisfaction of all present, and the chorus was parti sularly fine. Miss Jesse Hatcher, as "Minna," was sim ply charming. Miss lay Douglas as "Rosetta," rendered her able as sistance, and delighted the audience by her exquisite rendition of the song, v"OJ He, Mama," .Miss Ray mond, as.Miiaruarav" gave a natural and life-like portrayal. Mr. Her man Waldo, as "The Black Hussar,' is a very good actor, with a sweet, mellow and well traind voice. My-.' Freas, as "Hackenback" and Mr. Clayton, as "Pinkoro,"' kept the audience in roars of laughter by thpir witty sayings. Mr. Car as "Miffln, an Actor," acquitted him self creditably. There was a matinee this after- noon, at which was presented "The Queen's Lace Handkerchief," and to-night the company will conclude their engagement here with 44Er minie," This is the first time that this beautiful little opera has been presented in Wilmington and all who wish to see a good entertain ment should attend." Judging by the looks of the box sheet at this writing there will be. a big audience to see it, QUI BIRMINGHAM LETTEli Dear Review We are now hav ing very cool weather here. Have had frost once or twice in the xjast week, and expect it again. It is very welcome, for the yellow fever had a great many frightened in this part of the country, but I do not think the "Magic City" was in dan ger, f dr we can boast of the health iest city in the South, and on that has as fine a seweragsyste-m as anv South or North, It is quite laughable to read of suudl plaoes of about 150 or 300 in habitants quarantining against the world.- Such places, in my opiniou, should have a white washed fence put around them, forty feet high. Why, one small place in Mississippi quarantined against the United States and Arkansas as if Arkansas was not in the United States. 'What fools these mortals be!"
