For North Carolina, fair, except in the extreme northeast portion rain or snow, and stationary tern perature. The markets will be open on Thanksgiving Day until 11 o'clock, as usual, but they will remain closed during the remainder of the day. The Cape Fear Steam Fire Engine Company No.13 was out for practice this afternoon. It is the seventeenth anniversary of this excellent com pany. Mr. F. II. This is the standard rate, at this time, and it is for choice cuts. .We saw beef in Front street market this morning that would sellin Savannah for 25 cents. It can be bought here for 15 cents. Change of Schedule. An important change of schedule goes into effect on the C. C. R. R.f on Monday next. The day train will leave here at 2:10 p. m., and ar rive at Charlotte at 9:50 p. m., it will leave Charlotte .at 6 a. m., and ar rive here at 1 :40 p. m. The night train will leave here at 7 p. m., and arrive at 8:15 a. m. Not Much of a Fire. The (ire last Saturday night wag a small affair. It was the residence of Joe Turner, on McRae street. near the railroad, and was quickly suppressed. A heavy wind was blow ing at the time, from the Northeast, and considerable anxiety was felt until it was known that the danger was over. A New Postal Card. It is said that the Postoffice De partuient is "soon to have a new style of postal card. It is much like the double, card of the present pat tern- the back folds are split diag onally and open out like a pointed, star. The four corners ako folded and joined in the centre, when the card is ready for mailing, with a piece of gummed paper. The card weighs less thn half an ounce, and will contain, nq more writing than the present card, the only ad van tage being greater privacy. Providing for the People. Mr. Jno. F. Garrell believes in the saving efficacy of printer's ink and he iliustrates his faith by his works. Behold the result in the handsome and attractive ad. which he inserts in this issue of the Review. This is Thanksgiving week, when every body is. somehow, hungry all of the time and for home time past Mr. Garrell has been engaged in pre parations to feed the people of this city this week. He will have every thing and the best of everything. Read what he says and then go and see what he offers. Seriously Endangered. The cantata is to be re peated in Charlotte before it is pre sented here. TrltfnTtlrate of Newsmongers. We see by the Concord Tunes that our genial friend, Wade H. Harriss, has resigned his position as City Ed itor on the Charlotte Chronicle. We had not heard of this before. Our regrets are for the Chronicle. Wade Harriss has but one peer in the State as a news gatherer and that IS ' , Joe Caldwell, of the Statesville ! Landmark. The late Joel II. Muse, of the Star, was one other who would j rank with him. Harriss, Caldwell; and Muse were probably the three; be it newsmongers in the State. Another Storm on its Travels. The Storm King is still careering around the North Carolina Coast, I trying 10 get in some of his line j work. A telegram was received here j to day from Washington City which ordered up the signals, which now float over the signal office. It says: "Hoist cautionary North west signals for Wilmington and Wil mington section. Severe storm on the Middle Atlantic Coast now, causing dangerous winds along the North Carolina Coast. Will cause dangerous Northeast wind- on the North Carolina Coast, South of H at t eras, to-night. Help the Poor OriiKiuis. We are requested to call especial attention, to the fact that the Thompson Orphanage, located at Charlotte, is greatly in need of as sistance and t is hoped that the good people of this city will remem ber it in their contributions on Thanksgiving Day. A note from Rev. E. A. Osborne, the Superin tendent, to the Editor of this paper savs: "We have 31 homeless chil dren, and having no endowment, I find much difficulty in supporting them. We need funds for daily bread as well as for completing our buildings. Our orphAqage is for homeless children of North Caro- lim.'" It is a noble work and should not be allowed to languish. A Plea for the Orphans. Mil. Editor: Will you kindly publish the enclosed letter from Dr. B. F. Dixon, Superintendent of the Oxford Orphan Asylujn, referring to the collection onThanksgiving Day? This collection is taken up at the joint services to be held this year at Grace Methodist E. Church. As there are a great many of our good people who do not attend this ser vice, I desire the contributions of all who do not and who feel an interest in the work of the asylum handed in to the following named, persons: H.'H'.
