An accident, caused by a land slide, took place early this morning to the train which left here last night onjthe Carolina Central -Railroad, going West: It occurred about one mile beyond Lilesville. , The engine was derailed but all the cars remained on the track. The -en gineer, Mr. Meisenheimer, was bad- y injured, l?ut the fireman was un hurt. No one else was injured. The track was cleared up in a few hours and both of theday trains have pass! ed the spot. The train due here atl:40 was about two hours and a half ate. Mr. Meisenheimer was very seriously hurt but he was reported to-day as being a. comfortable as could be expected. . McKee Bankln. Mr. McKee Rankin will appear at the Opera Hoiase in this city to-morrow night in his new play, "The Runaway Wife." Our exchanges all agree in saying that it is a good thiner. and well produced. The Chicago Infer-Ocean says: The characters are distinctly drawn and well differentiated with out any attempt at moral contrasts, and the coastruction ot the play shows the dramatic expert. In his performance of the principal male character. Mr. Rankin gets .fairly well awav from the mannerisms of the frontier hero with which his reputation as an actor has been so lonsr associated. The chief merit of his work is in the manly, tenderness and intelligent sensibility with which he defines the nature of character, and really he has done nothing more admirable in many years than his interpretation of Arthur bast man, artist A little finer art in the external treatment and represanta tion of the characters will entitle his work to high praise. Store Broken Into. Some time Monday night Capt. Macombers store, seven miles East of Wilmington, was entered by way of the front window. The shutter was pried open and both sections of the sash were broken. The gentle man's only want at the time was nionev. as not one cent's worth of stock was taken or displaced. A' lot ot old red cents, about thirty, were carried off and the fellow was gen erous, if not honest, as he left apart of the pile, taking only about three- fourths of the whole. And to show that he was on friendly terms with the proprietor, he left his pistol and took particular pains to put it in a snug little place for safe keeping. Capt. Macomber says it is exactly where he would have put it had Be eft it with him for safe keeping. He also says that an old-fashioned far-1 TiiPr' Knrinr min has been set in his I - " i" - r o store many hundreds of times but because of its being so dangerous and so easily forgotten fee some time ago discontinued its use but says'he will have to again get it out and pu1 it on duty again.
