,tx nine ciinu came to my arms
, : To brinj; me joy or sorrow may

And s v beset by v.ajrue alarms
I sighed "Another baby!".
Another little waif to tend,
Another little helpless stranger,
Toead, to feed, to fold, tP fend
From every wrong and danger.
To make one anxious, make one sad,
And fearful for each morrow
maybe, .
With heart half sorrowful, half
a glad,
I moaned, "Another Baby!"
And then I thought how near, how
dear,
The little children God has'senttis,
How full theymade our home of
cheer,
Andhqw their presence did con
tent us
Hard if but one were laid away
This year or next, as might or
mayim,
Our hearts would ache, would burn,
would break.
And now Another baby!
Ah, so l thought! and so I said
In ecstacy of peace and pleasure.
As bending down I kissed the head
Of my last, weakest treasure
"Oh, dear child of my life and love,
Whate'er you are, whate'er you
maybe,
I take you from the Christ above.
And thank UHn for Another

Necessitates Constant Singing.
Robert Chessman, of Etna, Perm.,
is suffering from an affection of the
heart, complicated by the impair
ment of his bronchial tubes. The
latter affection necessitates that he
shall exercise his vocal pow-ers con
stantly, whether sleeping or wak
ing. Visitors to the town, in passing
the Chessman house late m at night,
are surprised to hear musical notes
coming from the room of the sleep
ing singer. He has sung three or
four different airs nightly for several
years. Singing is the only : specific
which prevents him from suffering
while asleep. A7. Y. Press.
A NARROW ESCAPE.
Co!. W. K. Nelson, of Brooklyn,
came home one evening feeling a
peculiar tightness in the chest. Be
fore retiring he tried to draw a long
breath but found it impossible. He
suffered four days from pneumonia
and the doctors gave him up. Dj.
Acker's English Remedy for Con
sumption saved him and he is weli
to day. Munds Bros., druggists
The Cow Would Not Be Harnessed.
One could scarcely expect a cow,
not trained to the profession of
arms, to conduct herself with great
self-possession as one of an army.
In the "Story of a Boy Company"
is to be found an anecdote concern
ing one such-new recruit a cow,
which, with several hens and a roos
ter, were attached to a Confederate
battery. As soon as a halt was made
for the night, the fols were taken
from the wagon, where they . rode,
the rooster was tied to a wheel spoke
by the leg, and his family always re
mained near him.
As the war progressed, and the
horses grew poor, the cow was
brought into iiseis a beast of bur
den. She was saddled, dishes, fry
ing pans and coffee pots were hung
upon the saddle, arid Mie docile crea
ture moved away, quite oblivious of
the clatter on her back. She was
usually tied to a carison, but Often
she was tuip yd loose, and thus fol
lowed the Ivatery, ljke an enlisted
soldier. ' .
During thelast winter of tiie war
a large, raw boned, brindie cow
strayed into camp, aud although at
first wild, she soon followed the ex
ample of the veteran and became an
orderly recuit.
One day, when a sudden start had
been ordered, it was thought advis
able to utilize the new cow as a por
ter. A little fellow named Carlton
was ordered to saddle the cows. The
old one was quickly loaded with
the Captain's baggage, recently
killed chickens and other rations,
and Carlton then proceeded to put
the coffee pot, skillet and other
cooking utensils upon the brindie.
H wasobliged to make her fast to
a pinetree in order to load her rapid
ly. Everything was ready, the bat
tery was about to move, and the
Captain directed Garlton to let go
the ropes and make the brindie fol
low in the wake of the old cow, who
had just taken the line of march in
good order. Hut no sooner had the
ropes slipped from old brindle's horns
than, with head, heels and tail high
in the air, she sped down the; hill,
the sound of her bellowing ming
ling with the clatter of tin, and
forming a bass and tenor seldom
heard.
After freeing herself of every ves
tige of her pack she slowly returned,
seeking her companion. The scat
tered load was collected and placed
again upon her back, but as sodn as
she was free, with a bound and bel
low, she fled. down the hill, this time
never to return. f
