One of the strong points in Milton Nobles' new drama is the sudden loss of speech by the hero and its sudden restoration at a critical mo ment. An able critic has pronounced Mr. Nobles- acting during those scenes as being scarcely paralleled in the entire range of American plays. The visit of this eminent ac tor and dramatist is iin event that no theatre-goer should miss.r Mr Nobles is celebrated for always car rying a superb company of support ing artists. The Alta Caiifoniian says: "From Sfre to Son." in the hands 1 of Milton Nobles and his excellent j support, has proved a big attraction , at the Alcazar Theatre during the 1 week, every seat having its oecu pant on the rising un of the curtain each evenine. Nobles has always : been a favorite with San Francisco j j theatre-goers, and "From Sire to , aon" nas proved the most enter- taming melodrama that this play-' wright and actor -ha vet produced. The scenes is laid in the minincr camp of Yuba, and introduces many j oi tne scenes familiar to old Cantor nians. Mr. Nobles' plavs are all full 'a a j of strong "human interest." In the present instance his earlv California : experiedces have materially aided postmaster, and the mining camp' to Son" will , doctor.- "From Sire live. ; mm in reproducing man v lifelike unison witutuoe appearing in every ieq.- . tyien of character, notably the two part of the country and sontiriiJ tb.e i srliib. We were pleased to receive a visit this morning from Mr. J. C. Hester, of the Hou8eaeekeYs Guide ot Peach-1 land, who has been in the city for some days in the interest of his pa per. Peachland lis a new town in Anson . county on the C. C. R. Ks some twelve miles West of Wades boro, whieh has been recently laid off and which the projectors are de termined to make a thriving plce of. Jt is in a fine country, with ex cellent national advantagesand pure water, and the enterprise is backed up by gentlemen of means and standing. Personal. Hon. Chas. M. Stedman was in Raleigh yesterday. Mr. J. Wright Stedman has re turned from a visit to Augusta. Col. E. D. Hall has; returned to the city from a visit to his d'augh'ter at Clinton. We are glad to note that Mr. Louis T Petteway. who has been very sick for some weeks past, is out again. ' jilesstjs. W. H. Chadbourn and B. E. Moore, who have been in Raleigh for some days past, have returned to the city. Mr. J. C. Chase, who has been in Raleigh in attendance on the Sani tary Convention, returned to the city this morning. Dr. W. G. Curtis, who has been in Raleigh in attendance on the Sani tary Convention,: and in reference to quarantine matters, passed through the city yesterday on his return to Sontbport. This Morning's Fire.; At about 1 o'clock this morning an alarm of fire was turned in, first 'from box 14, corner Third and Princess and directly afterwards from box 16 corner Seventh j and Mulberry. It was caused by the 'destruction, of a new twb-story frame dwelling on the South side of Mulberry street, between Fourth and Fifth, owned by Mr. Oscar Pearsall. It was a cold morning, but the firemen turned out promptly and worked hard. They succeeded m confining the flames to the building in which it originated, although there was other valuable property in the immediate neighborhood Mrrearsali's house was completely gutted?: It was new, not quite completed, but very near ly so, and will prove a complete lossi It was insured for $1,000 in the Liv erpool, London and Globe, repre sented here by ' Messrs. Smith & Boat wright, but this will not cover more than two-thirds of the loss. How the fire originated is a mys tery. A gentleman living near, who came in on the late Southern train, and who entered his house at about half-past 12 o'clock, says there was no evidence of the fire.there at that time, so far as he observed. It is supposed that the fire was either in cendiary or that some tramps had found an entrance to the house and built up a fire there which was af terwards communicated to the build ing. . .. y : '. ; " .
