Broken Toy.
As I sit to-nirht in the firelight,
And dream of the long: ago,
My thought fly back to boyhood,
And set my heart aglow.
Oh ! dreams that long have van
ished. Oh ! vain and fleeting toys,
Where are the hopes I cherished?
Where are my broken toys?
' My broken toys ah ! heaven.
Sadly my heart recalls,
iThe dreams that once were clearest,
And over my soul there falls
A shadow, like mist at evening.
That drops without mist or noi-e.
j And shuts me out forever
From dreams of mv broken tovs!

Yet I dream as 1 sit. in the firelight.
Of one who was bright and ficr,
With rosy lipstand sweet gray eyes,
And jivy, nut-brown hair;

For the angels share her joys.

Perhaps in the far off future,
Wfienthe weary years are done,
And the, grave has closed above me,

And the pitying God in heaven
Will mend my broken toys !

I've used Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup

valued. I'm never backward in re

The climax of cheek was attained
the other night during the baptis
mal service at the Third Baptist
church on Hopkins street, Cincin
nati. when a reporter on a morning
paper, attired in a "loud" Mackins
tosh and with his blonde hair neat
ly banged, strolled up the aisle in
the very midst of the services and,
halting at the pool, seated himself
complacently on the edge of the
tank and watcher! the immersion
with the same interest, as he wonld
a dog fight, utterly unmindful of
the wondering gaze of five hundred
to one thousand pairs of eyes. Ex-change.

Nitro-Glycerine in Kidney Disease.
Nitro-glycerine bids fair, says the
doctors, to become an important
remedy for diseases of the kidneys;
and experiments are now making in
cases of Bright's disease. Nitro
glycerine of a pure quality, possess
ing all the explosive powers of the
substance, is prepared in alcohol
(which reiuoves'the explosive qual
ity) in tbe proportion of one part of
tlie nitro glycerine to ninety nine of
alcohol, and is then prepared vyith
sugar or milk in tablets. A patient
in a Philadelphia hospital has had
the dose increased until now he is
taking eighty grains a day. He has
Bright's disease, and the effects are
said to be highly satisfactory.
SHE IS "GRATEFUL."
"I saved the life of my little girl
by a prompt use of Dr. Acker's Eng
lish Remedy for Consumption."

Take a Wife.
'Boctoi 1 feel miserable in mind
ami body what shall I take?'1 asked
an old bachelor patient of a physi
cian. "Tako a wife,1 answered the
doctor gruffly. Many tire the men
who have profited by this prescript
tion.
In after life.' when the husband
gets torn by care and troubles come
to steal away his peace of mind, the
woman whom he promised to pro
tect becomes his protector. She
smooths out the wrinkled brow of
care. She props up his flagging
spirits; she puts new life into his
bosom, new hope into his soul, and
he goes forth in the morning with
new strength and new zeal to wres
tie with life anc its responsibilities.
Woman may be the weaker vessel,
but she isn't broken up and doesn't
go to pieces as soon as a man.
