Randall is a thousand times better man to day than some of those who are denouncing him. Mayor Grant says that the net work of wires in the streets of New York shall come down, even if he has to take them down himself. Ciood for Grant. In that case there will be a, great deal of work to be crowded in to four days. The New York Herald thinks that Senator Blackburn ought toapolo- gize to the American people for pulling Chandler's ear. So do we. We think he ought to apologize for not raking r belittle puppy over nis knee and using a shingle on him. ,a m - ikAnd don't you forget it!" We have alt seen the picture of the big man trying to impress this admo nition on another and they do say that the little man in the picture bears a remarkable and striking re semblance to W. E. Chandler. We have a high regard for the opinion of the New York Herald in most matters and would therefore like to have it. on a certain point. If the man who resents an insult is a blackguard, will the Herald kindly define for us the man who does not resent one?" Montana' will vote for State offi cers next October. The Democrats are very hopeful of success. J. K. Toole, Congressional Delegate from the Territory, will be the Demo emtio candidate for Governor and he says that the State is safely Dem ocratic In the general interest attaching to the movements of Harrison the Secon.l those of that distin guished Presidential tail, Levi P. Morton, seem to have been un accountably overlooked. He is in New York yet but will probably be on hand in Washington City on Monday next. According to the New York Herald but three members of the Cabinet had positively been decided upon on Monday night. The status at that time was Blaine, for State, Piatt for P. M. General and Noble for Attorney-General. Windom and Charles Foster for the Treasury and Rusk or Proctor for War were oi the slate, but the Navy and Interior were positive blanks. mm tf The New York Herald calls Sena tor Blackburn a blackguard. Now, we wonder what the author of that article would charge to go to Wash ington City and meet Blackburn in the street and say to him personally such a thing. He wouldn't do it, of course, but then it might be a jour nalistic venture that would result in a Dig item of news, lf there was anything left of him after the inter view he might take the remnants back to New York and tell the world how Chandler felt when Blackburn took him by the ear. There is a bill for a dog law, it has passed ,lthe House. It been already pigeon-holed in Senate- and there it will die and has the the death. Look at a human being when under that terrible tor ture, rheumatism. Trival symp toms were neglected until the dis ease became established, whereas all the long suffering could have been prevented by the prompt use of Salvation Oil, costing only 25 cents a bottle at all drug stores. Thirty-two V ears Ago. The battle of Moore's Creek was fought this day 113 years ago. There is a monument there to commemo rate the event, raised by the pa triotic citizens of this citv and sec- I tion. It was erected in the year ! 1857. There was a big crowd pres ent and t omiIitary companies from Wilmington, the Wilmington Light Infantry and the Wilmington Rifle Cadets. If we recollect rightly the address of commemoration was de livered by the late Joshua G. Wright. Painful Accident. At about 1 0:30 o'alock this morn ing, as one of the street cars waa coming down Front street, and when opposite the New Market House, a small boy by the name of Joe Darden, son of Mr. W-411. Dar den, in jumping from the front of the car fell, his left foot falling un der the wheels, which passed over it crushing it considerably. He was taken to a store near by and as soon as Superintendent Stedman heard of the accident he had him removed to Dr. Anderson's office, where his wound was dressed, after which he was taken to his father's- residence in the Southern part of the city. First Annual Meeting. The first aniual meeting of the stockholders of the Wilmington Sea coast R. R. was held yesterday. The following Board of Directors were elected for the ensuing year, viz: B. G. Worth, Wm. Latimer, E. S. Latimer, H. M. Bowden, J. H. Ghadbourn, Jr., G. H. Smith, W. H. Chadbourn, E. G. Barker, G. R. French, Jr. At a subsequent meeting of the Board of Directors the following officers were unanimously elected, viz: President E. S. Latimer. Vice President B. G. Worth. Secretary and Treasurer H. M. Bowden. General Manager J. H. Chad bourn, Jr. The Old and the New. The friendly suit which has been pending between the "two Episcopal dioceses in this State, relative to a legacy of $20,000, devised by Miss Mary Smith, of Chapel Hill, to the diocese of North Carolina, has been decided in favor of a division be tween the two dioceses. The be quest was made when, there was but one diocese in the State, that of North Carolina. No other decision than that rendered by Judge Graves, it seems tojus, was possible in the case, and we have never yet seen the necessity for .legal interference in the matter. The diocese of East Carolina is as much a corporate part of the old dioceseof North Carolina as is thepresent diocese bearing that name. There was simply a division of the aid diocese, a sort of dissolu tion of partnership, as it were, and hence the assets of the firm should be divided. About the Weather.
