LACK OF LIFE.
When the pulse beats feebly; when the en
ergy Is gone; when the appetite is weak and
sleep uncertain, the body is In a condition of
actual "low life." Nojnatter what the causes
may have been Nature has given way and un
less her strength Is restored disease is certain
to take possession of the body. The first
thing any doctor does in such a case is to as
slst Nature. Here are some instances:
Prof. Austin Flint, of Belle vue (New York)
College says: "The judicious use of alcoholic
stimulants is one of the striking characteris
tics of progress in the practice of medicine
during the last half century."
The celebrated Dr. J. M. Carawall says: "I
am mo it happy to say, after a very thorough
test, that for persons suirering wr.n nervous
and general debility or any wasting disease, or
for delicate persons or invalids. Duffy's 1'ure
Malt Whiskey is the best tonic and purest
stimulant with which I am acquainted."
There are no higher scicntiti j .authorities
than these and they speak volumes. Beware
of all bottled whiskies which may be offered
you, excedt Duffy's. It has stood the test of
time and is absolutely pure.

quarter, compared with 1838, there
was an increase in exports oi $30,

was a over $27,000,000; for the year
the gain was a little short of $30,000. -000.
In the imports the ain for

The re no rt. of tin assessors shows I
a gratifving'increase in the taxable!
values of the city of New Orleans to
the extent of more than $10,500,000.
The increase has taken place in a

attributes to a considerable devel

amount of building of a high class
and file organization of many mo

This is certainly in pleasant con

the Crescent City during the car

prostrated and taxation amou nted
almost to confiscation.

The arrval of the Wilkommen at
Baltimore aroused much interest
and curiosity, as she 4was the first
oil tank steamer ever seen in that
port. She is a barkentine-rigged
vessel, built of steel, and is 330 feet
long by 41 feet beam, with 32 feet
depth of hold. Her capacity is 28,
000 barrels of oil in bulk. The
Wilkommen is one of sixty tank
steaiuers owned by Mr. W. A
Reidemann, of Bremen, and she is
the largest afloat. She is consigned
to the Baltimore United Oil Com

270,000 grllons, or 24,400 barrels, of
refined oil, all of which is purchased
on the account of the vessel's owner.
Other steam tank vessels are expect
to follow the Wilkommen. The oil
for the Wilkommen is pumped
through the pipe line to Baltimore
from the Pennsylvania oil fields in a
crude state, and refined at Balti-

I at once secured the S. S. S., and after
