The steamer Sylvan Grove will ma'se but one 'trip to morrow to Carolina Beach. She wdl go down at 12 o'clock, and return at 4:30, the occasion being the excursion to be given by Wilmington Commandery, Knights Templars, to the Grand Commandery and Grand Chapter. The Knights and other members of the order will assemble at 11 o'clock and march to the steamer, preceed ed by the Germania Cornet Band which will accompany tnem to the Beacn. Make Haste Slowly. There is much talk here to-day of the action of the Board of Audit and Finance, at their meeting yes terday afternoon, in recommending an Increase in the tax on the sale of lfqaors. There are but three whole salers in this city and these all say that they will not pay the tax; that they will go out of the business, as dealers, but will receive orders by sample and ship direct from the dis tillery to the customer. They might be willing to pay the tax, it is said, but for the fact that itwill fall on them individually. There are stan dard grades in liquors, as in every thing else, and it is impossible for them to raise the prices on these as, if they should, dealers in other cities and other States will then step in and undersell them. They pay now $22 each, per month, to the city, making $G6 per month in city tax for the three dealers. Besides this they pay $500 each to the State and county, making in all nearly $2,300 in taxes which will not be paid if the additional tax is insisted on and they go out of the business. The action of the Board of Audit and Finance has nothing to do with the question of prohibition or of temperance. It is simply a business matter and will be treated as such. Before these recommendations of the Board are adopted the question should be thoroughly canvassed and understood and the dealers them selves should have a hearing in the matter, otherwise the tax receipts may be decreased, instead of increased. Dailt The stones have arrived and the! ; pavers are again at work on Market street. They will probably finish it up to morrow night. We are sorry to hear of the death of the venerable Prof. Denck, the well known pianist, which occurred at his residence in Columbia, S. C, on Sunday last, of hemorrhage. Mr. K. M.
