The Nashville, Tenn.,ay
can is jubilant over the building
boom which has reached that city.
rt. states that the buildings now in
course of erection will cost at least
$1,000,000. There is fully 50 per
cent, more building going on in
Nashville now than at this time last
year. Several buildings, unexcelled
for magnitude and magnificence in
the South, are being constructed in
the business part of the city, while
a number of costly and elegant
dwellings are approaching eoiuple
tion on the residence streets. The
American says the most encourag
ing fact in connection with the
building situation is that business
men of moderate means and well to
do professional men are building
comfortable, home like cottages.

In a large window of a St. Louis
clothing store is a "pig in the clov
er11 puzzle that is attracting a cro 'd
of interested people every day. The
window is transformed into a sem
blance of the puzzle, the partitions
being low fences, and running about
in the passages are four small pigs
ornamented with bows of delicately
colored ribbons. A little boy in the
guise of a farmer endeavors to drive
them injto the pen, while the crowd
of people watch outside. Just as he
succeeds in getting them into the
inner ring one or two of them will
jump the railings and trot leisurely
in the opposite direction, after the
customary perverse manner of pigs.
No one has ever seen all the gpigs in
the pen at once, and the amount of
money that has been wagered on
those pigs and their juvenile driver
would build the Centennial arch and
relieve the Johnstown sufferers.
Ex Congressman Lagan has writ
ten a letter to the Times Democrat
in which he throws out some sug
gestions as to how the drainage of
New Orleans should be done. Mr.
Lagan favors a two mill tax for
seven years, which would give some
$1,680,000, sufficient, he thinks, to
assure good drainage. He would do
nothing now even for two years
allowing the fund to accumulate to
$240,000 before beginning work, ad
vertising in the meanwhile for plans
from the most eminent engineers in
Europe and the United States.: The
people of New Orleans recently
voted down a proposed subscription
of $500,000 with which to commence
work on an elaborate system of
drainage, but the Times-Democrat
expresses the hope that Mr. Lagan's
suggestion will bring the drainage
and anti-drainage people into a
conference that will agree to sorae
plan for going about the work.
The costly experience which the
people of New Orleans have had
with disease should certainly incline
them to adopt all reasonable pre
cautionary measures. A complete
system of seweraga and drainage
has made Memphis, Tenn., one of
the healthiest cities in the country,
and experts in entrineerinar assert.
that New Orleans can bo made just
as healthy.

In 1386 1 contracted blood poison, and at once
sought a physician, who treated me for sev
eral months. By hi3 advice 1 went to Crab
On-hard Springs, Ky., where his course of
treatment was carefully observed. I recov
ered, as I thought, but the next spring pim
ples began to appear on my face and body.
These gradually increased to sores "and run
ning ulcers. I was advised to try S. S. S., and
immediately after taking it I commenced to
improve, slowly at first, but more rapidly
afterwards, and soon nothing remained to
tell of my trouble. My blood is now thor
oughly cleansed, and my system free from

perfect core to your medicine. I cheerfully
give this statement that others who have
suffered as I have may reap the same benefit.
