Johnnie's Growth.
Lav away the little shirt waist
That our darling boy once wore,
In the rapr bag gently shove it,
He won't need it any more.
With a pair of red suspenders
We must soon our boy endow,
For the fact is most apparent
Papa's pants fit Johnnie now.
Lav aside the knickerbockers
With the fringe around the knees;
Take the marbles from the pocket,
AH the strings and nails and keys.
Buy him socks instead of stockings,
Or the boy will raise a row;
For our darling has been growing
Papa's pants Gt Johnnie now.

TERKIBLE.

The One Thing: Needed.
A gentleman who was driving up
Fourth avenue the other day came
to several empty barrels in the street
and he halted and asked a boy who
sat on the curb:
"Say, boy, who rolled those bar
rels out here?"
"Pa did. We are cleaning house,"
was the answe.
"Whose children are those oat
there in the street?"
"They are ours. Ma sent 'em out
to get rid of them."
"Is that your dog making such a
fuss in the back yard?"
"Yes, sir. We are seeing how long
he can keep it up."
"And I suppose you lugged that
ladder out here?"
"Yes, sir I'm playing with it."
"Well, you seem to be doing about
as you want up here?"
kYes, sir, except that I can't pry
that letter box off the lamp post.
Haven't got a crowbar in the buggy
have you? I just want that to be
happy." Detroit Free Ires8.
Advice to Mothers.
Mrs. WiNSiiOw 'smoothing Syrup
should always be used when children
are cutting teeth. It relieves the lit
tle sufferer at once; it produces nat
ural, quiet sleep by relieving the
cnild from pain, and the little cher
ub awakes as "bright as button." It
is very pleasant to taste. It soothes
the child, softens the gums, allays
all pain, relieves wind, regulates the
bowels, and is the best known reme
dy for diarrhcBa, whether arising
from teething or othr causes.

A Man With a Double Stounu h.
The New York Fire Department
has in its ranks a member who
could make a bigger salary in a dime
museum than at life saving, were
he willing to go on exhibition. He
is one of the best known members,
too, and has received a medal for
braverv at a fire. He has what is
I best described as a double stomach,
some sort of an internal sack or
pouch in addition to the regular
stomach, into which he can at will
direct anything that he swallows.
Whatever goes into this sack he can
retain there as long as he pleases
and then bring up again unharmed.
In this way he can swallow coins,
pebbles or Any small trifles, and re
gain possession of them again at
! will, lie declares that this power
J has been a great use to him at times
when he was the bearer of import -'
ant secret despatches through a hos
tile country. He enclosed them in
a round silver case that he had
made, swallowed them whenever
necessary and defied his searchers,
lie has been examined by wH
known doctors, who say that this
internal arrangement of his is one
of the most remarkable freaks of
nature ever known. He has had
offers of large sums if he would will
his body to some medical institution
when he died. He says that he dis
covered the peculiarity about his
stomach when a boy, by swallowing
pebbles and bringing them up again
to the admiring awe of his compan
ions. AT. F. Sun.
