As was predicted by us last Mon day the tone of the Weekly Crop Bulletin is of a much more cheerful nature than that which pervaded last week's report. It is as follows: The reports of correspondents of the Weekly Crop Bulletin, publish ed by the North Carolina Experi ment Statiou and State Weather Service, cooperating with the United States Signal Service, shows that there has been a deficiency of rain fall, an excess of temperature and sunshine for the week-ending. Fri day, July 12th. All crops'have been favorably affected. The week has been favorable for farm work and harvesting. The oat crop has- im proved very much and in some nlaces is said to be the finest for years. Tobacco was injured to some extent by the heavy rain of the previous week but is now looking better. Cotton has had just such weather as it needed and is general ly looking welK The prospects for an average crop are good. The hot wave that crossed the State the lat ter part of the week was very bene nciai to tne growtn oi an crops Laid to Rest. The remains of the lamented Col L. C. Jones were laid away to rest vesterdav in tbeWavevard at Buf- mw m mm mw falo Presbyterian Church, near San ford. Tne attendance was .very lanre. manv traveling hundreds of miles to be present oh that occasion There was a special train from Wil mington, and on from Rutherford ton, one from Raleigh and one from Fayetteville. That from this city was composed of four coaches and a box car; two additional oars, full of the employee from thatplaee, were taken on at Laurinburg.' The train from Rutherfordton consisted of five coaches. The two trains met at Hamlet and were run thence fo Sanford in two sections. Cant. John 'F. Divine, General Superintendent; Capt. B. R. S, Beldan, J. C. Chase, J. H. Currie, and G. W. Branch represented the citizens of Wilming ton. . The services at the cturcn were peculiarly sad, solemn and impres sive. Those who stood around the newly made" grave felt ; more as though as they had lost a brother or a father than a friend. The pall bearers, who were chosen from the officers of the Carolina Central with the view of represent iner every department, were as fol lows: Messrs. H. P. Johnston, James Maglenn, W. F. Williams, T. W. Whisnant, K. S. Finch, and W. D. Summersett, -' .' Tha floral designs were exceeding ly handsome. That carried by the officers and employees in this city represented a. broken column with a wreath surmounted .by a star and a d,ave, carrying a spray in its moutn and with its wigs spread. The Raleigh & Gaston people also pre sented a very handsome broken column surmounted with a dove; while that from the C. F. & Y. V. R. 'Altogether, Wrightsville was full of people yesterday and there were a great many visitors at the camp during the day, yet everything was quiet and devoid of interest with the exception of Divine services and the dress parade in the afternoon.
