H. McFarland, son of the late Jonas McFar land, departed this life in the thirty eighth year of his age. Mr. Me Farland had been in frail health for some time, suffering from a puU monary affection and had returned buta few weeks ago from the moun. tains where he had been in search of health. He. returned home but to die, and this "morning, surround ed by the loved ones of his family and in the full possession of his facuU ties, he passed- from life to death, through death, to life, immortal. He leaves a wife and two children and a mother ' and sister to mourn the loss of son,' brother, husband and father, in all of which relations he was exemplary. He had been for many years in the service of the Wilmington: and Weldon Railroad Comnany aQ was greatly, esteemed by the officials of that company for his efficiency, and integrity and the faitlifpl issharge $t is duties. Laughhn, in February jlast. He was defended by Mr. Bellamy and Mr. John T. Bland, of Burgaw, and was acquit te - I - - A Pro mlging Patent. Mr. E. Kelley showed us this morning a very useful device. It is "Tillman's Patent Umbrella Holder for Buggies and Wagons'nd seems to us to be the very thing needed. Mr. Kelley;has the right for the State and proposes to put it on the mar ket at an early day. It is. made to hold an ordinary umbrgjla and can be taken lout of the vehicle at pleasure or the umbrella can be turned- n any direction while it is in the hdlder. Not Generally Known. i - - It is not generally known that it is burglary to brak out of a dwell ing. house, as well as into it. Any one whd conceals himself or her selfin a dwelling and then breaks out of it at night, carrying with him property belonging to the inmates, is as much guilty of burglary as if he or sho-f-broke into the house at night. There are some queer things about the law but it will be found that it is all based on simple com mon sense and mcum and teum. Proud Privilege. ' It is expected that Ex President Davis will pass through Charlotte on his way j to the Fayette vi lie Cen tennialand the News suggests that an attempt be made to induce him to stop over there for a rest of a day or two. The fact that Mr. Davis remained in that city for several days after the fall of Richmond is alluded toj !
