This famous play by Dion Bouci- cault, one of the most noted and celebrated of playwrights, will be the attraction at the Opera HOuse to night and to morrow night. The company that will present the play here this season is entirelv different from that of las season and com prises several people of note in the profession. W. C. Donaldson, who will appear as "Tom Badger," is an accor of well known reputation, having been Lizzie Evans' leading man for two seasons, and -last year was the leading support to Ada Gray. He is claimed to be the best yet seen in this exacting role since Frank Mavo olaved the part. Miss Clara Douglass, who plays "Alida," is also credited with being wonder fully clever, and a very beautiful woman besides, ine company go from here 'to Charleston and have chartered a special train, so there will be no cutting of the perform ance, which in the past has been altogether too frequent oy com panies going from here to Soutnern cities. j Some Exodus Talk. From Geo. W. Price, Jr., Chair, man of the Commission who re cently visited the Sputhwest to spy out the lands there in the interest of the proposed colored emigrants, we have received a copy of the report submitted by them. Of course it is all highly colored, beautifully rose tinted. This report will be re ceived by many with something of distrust. The belief is getting abroad that : there is "a nigger in the wood pile" somewhere and "considerable curiosity is being manifested to know who gets the money and how much is the rate per capita. Stewart Ellison, of Raleigh, is one of the most prominent colored men in the State. Every man of his race in North' Carolina knows him,or knows of him. He represented Wake county in the Legislature on several occasions and stands well with the Raleigh people, both white and colored. Well, Ellison told a New York Herald reporter 'last week that he took no slock in this ing; that he believed it was a scheme for some railroad men to make money ; that the Mississippi Delta was not the place for the col ored man to migrate to and that some of thos,e who had already gone out there from North .Carolina. were anxious to get back. Laborers are paid there but 75 cents a day and 1 supplies are all much higher there than in North Carolina. We think a reactfoirwill soon set in and that NEW A V 15 UT I S B M E N T8.
