A Democrat in Monana County, la., was elected to the Legislature by a majority of one vote. If he had remained at home on the day of the election the result would have been a tie. The salmon fisheries of British Columbia have been a source of great wealth to the province this year. . The bark Tithares sailed for London last week from Victoria with 51,429 cases of salmon, valued at $300,000. The gala coach in which the Princess Sophie, recently married to the Crown Prince of Greece, rode to her wedding, was built for the Count de Chambord.Jn expectation of his coronation. The King of Greece bought the coach for 20,00() francs. -. - The German naval authorities are said to have been making experi ments lately with a torpedo boat built of compressed paper. The vessel is eleven feet long, and was found to show great strength and more elasticity when rammed by another boat. The first statue erected in this country to a workingman will soon be unveiled in Sacramento. It is in honor of E. J. Stevens, late master mechanic of the Southern Pacific, who had for years been in charge of iaimense railroad shops in Sacra mento.
