R., is at work now on plans for a system of water works at the depot at Point Peter. A tower 40 feet high is to be erected and kept full of water and from this pipes are -to lead out over the yard and the warehouses. The water will also be sup plied to engines in the yard and be used in the offices and warehouses at the point, Othello. One of the largest audiences of the season was present at the Opera House last night to see Mr. R. D. McLean and Miss Marie Prescott in Othello and Iayo. It was found to proceed from the ex tensive saw and placing mills of Messrs. J'Bmes H. Chadbourn & Co. (n the Northern part of the city. The fire was first discovered by the watchman and he tried hard te sup press it but his effortswere unavail ing. An alarm was sent out and the 'epartmenlt responded promptly but could not save the two mills, which Wore totally destroyed, hut they kept the flames tram spreading to p.ther; parts and the. lumber was all saved. The mills were known as the Clarendon Steam Saw and Plan ing Mills. They were first erected in 1852 but have since been enlarged and improved. The capacity of the saw mill was about 25,000 u feet per day. The loss foots up $20,000, and there was insurance tor $9,5QP. distributed, as fjOlio.ws: With Messrs.
