The richest man in Russia, Count Sheremtjew, is about to produce Puschkin's play, "Boris Godonow,'1 in'his own house, and has spent 30, 000 roubles on scenery and costumes. The performers will b noble amateurs, and the royal opera will supply the music and choruses. Says a Washington correspondent: "When Speaker Thomas l. Reed gets angty his feathers assume a most benignant aspect, and an al most seraphic suiile illuminates his countenance. TliDse who know him best Stay that this is the time to stand from under. It is when he smiles good liaturedly that he is most dan gerous. It is a sad and demoralizing fea ture of the influenza epidemic in Paris that ladies and gentlemen very partial to alcohol escaped, while those leading temperate lives were the worst sufferers. Physicians noting this immediately advised the use of warm alcoholic drinks, with the result that 1500 persons were ar rested in the streets within hree days for drunkenness. wwm- , The civil service examiners have some queer experiences. An appli cant for appointment on the police force of one of our cities, in filling in the replies tos questions about his habits, wrote that he took five cock tails before breakfast. Another frankly wrote that he took consider able liquor, and when askedif a phy sician prescribed it said: "No, I pre scribed it for myself.'1 "The man that blushes is not quite abrute." We suppose not, but they say there is a whole family out in Dakota, who had never even heard of Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup. How they must blush to have it found out!
