While the Queen of Greece was walking in the grounds of the palace on Thursday afternoon an electric light wire became detached from its fastenings overhead and fell upon her in such manner as to encircle her body. She straggled to free herself, but her efforts only resulted in binding her more securely. The wire was carrying no current at the time, but the hour when it should be turned on for the evening was near, a -fact which Her Majesty fully realized. Attendants rushed to ; her assistance, and she was extricated, but not a moment tao soon, for scarcely had she been freed when the deadly current was turned on and brilliant lights flashed in every direction. The grippe is annoying and dis agreeable but it is not considered dangerous here. No deaths have resulted, so far as we can learn. One gentleman told us this morning that on Sunday last six out of the seveu in his family were down with the disease. The funeral services will take place to morrow morning, at 10 o'clock, from the residence, 809 Orange street. The interment will be in-Bellevue. Dr. Wood's Iiecturc. Dr. Thomas F. Wood delivered a very fine lecture last night at the rooms of theY. M. C. A. and before a large audience. It was the first of a series to be given there. Dr. Wood spoke . of poisons and their antidotes and there is no man in the State more thoroughly able to speak on such a subject, one to which the doctor has given much of his time and attention. A second lecture of the series will be delivereJ by Dr. Wood in February. A Flattering Kxhibit. To one who can recoljeet back a few years ago to the time when the city of Wilmington, under Republi can rule, defaulted on the interest of its bonds for two years, the ad vertisement of Mr. R. J. Jones, Com missioner of the Sinking Fund of the city, will prove pleasant and profitable reading. Just as soon as the Democrats got affairs into their hands again the tangle was an tangled, and order sprang from chaos. In those days city bonds, and 8 per cent gold bonds at that, were quoted way down yonder at 60 and 62 cents on the'dollar. In these days there are none to sell at any price and if they were on the mar ket they would probably bring t wice as much as the quotations under the Canaday administration. There is now no floating indebtedness that is not paid on demand and the fact that there is a sinking fund of near lv one hundred thousand dollars. approximating one-sixth of t he bond ed indebtedness of the city, is a very cheering fact.
