Remarkable ICesou Mrs. Michael Curtain, Plainfield, 111., makes the statement that she caught cold, which settle:l on her. lungs; sne was treatea lor a month by her family physician, but grew worse. He told her she was a home less victim of consumption and that no medicine could cur her. Her druggist suggested Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption; she bought a bottle and to her delight found' herself benefited from first dose. She continued its use and af ter taking ten bottles, found herself sound and wTell, now does her own housework and is as well as she ever was. Free trial bottles of this Qreat Discovery at R. R. Have you ever heard the story or shall I call it the tradition about the origin of the United States Ma rine Band?" inquired an old gentle man. tlA good many years ago, perhaps, sixty or seventy," a United States war vessel was cruising on the coast of Italy. As his orders would shortly be to carry him to Nice, where the ship's officers were anticipating a pleasant social sea son, as he had no band on board, the commander hit upon a plan to secure the much coverted music. - He sent one of his mst reckless officers ashore in the command of a trusty boat's crew of .Tack tars and marines as reckless as himself, with orders toimpressasAimM-ican seamen the first band of -musicians they came across. These orders were carried out, and the bold command er and his officers had a splendid timo in the winter resort port of the Mcditeranean. "More than that, ihey brought their strolling-band 10 Washington, and those musicians were tne nu cleus of the now famous band. Some of the best Italian families in Wash ington, as the Carusis and the Mas seys, are said to have been founded by these unwilling musical irnmi grants. Carusi's dancing hall, you will remember, was the scene of one of the iuaugiiral balls given in honor of President Harrison's grandfather. He i Wa Poor but Honest. am m l ne other lorenoon a young man with a forlorn-looking . countenance, and a suit of clothes which seemed to have run all together and consol idated to save expense, mounted a salt bairel on the side.walk on Mich igan avenue, and started off with: "My dear friends, pause for a mo ment and hear my narrative. 1 am a poor but honest young man. My motto Is 'Excelsior.' My parents are dead and I am a lone- orphan.' He added considerable to - the above, and in a few moments he had a crowd of fifty people around him. Then he announced: 4My dear friends, I do not ask for charity. All ! want is a fair show to my way in life. I shall: now '.ask you to clap in a nickel apiece, and I win enoeavor to cio something nev er yet done on the face of the globe. I will try to turn a quadruple somer sault in the airj' The crowd seemed to like the idea. and the small change rattled in until the gross amount was about three dollars. Then tne young man got down off the barrel, spit on his hands, picked out his ground, and turned. a'.pretty fair somersault. He turned another and another and then remounted the barrel and said: "Kind friends, I have tried to, but 1 can't do it. . Assuring you of my heartfelt thanks for your kindness. I remain yours truly." " - And not 'a 'man uttered a word Of complaint. Detroit Free Press. PIMPLES ON THE FAC K Denote an impure state of the blood and are looked upon by many with suspicion. Acker's Blood Elixir will remove all impurities and leave the complexion smooth and clear. There ia nothing that will eo thoroughly build up the constitution; purify and strengthen the whole system. Sold and guaranteed byMunds Bros., druggist. ; v Ingenious Mode of Checking Fire. An old story is being resurrected against a usually . quiet but some what excitable resident of the sub urbs. It is alleged that the - gentle man in question discovered that a fire had been started Inthe : attic of hi3 house, through the' heat' of one of th chimneys. . : With ; rare pres ence of mind he rushed down stairs and seized a milk pitcher from the kitchen table, rushed out to the cistern, threw the milk out -of the pitcher, pumped some water into it, ; aiid rushed up stairs, only to find i that his wife had seized a large; pitcher or water from one , of tue bedrooms in th upper story and extinguished the incipient sonfla gration. As there were four large ewers of water on the two upper stories, the progress of mental reas oning which induced the excited resident -to make such a ferocious onslaught on the milk pitcher would be extremely interesting to trace, if such a thing were possible. He should, have the presence- of mind possessed by another bouse owner, who discovered that a spark from a neighboring conflagation had lit upon the slightly slanting roof of his house, and had set fire to the shingles. AU the buckets and tubs and pitchers had gone for use in the bigfire-and there was no one to send over to bring tbeni back. But the owner of the house, even in that moment of peril, kept cool-headed. He rushed to the pond, which stood by the house, and deliberately sat down in the water. To race up stairs and'out upon the roof was the work of a moment, and then he nsat on'1 the lire, in more senses . than one! He sayed the house. Boston Adver tiser. ' Consumption Snrely Cured.
