He yesterday celebrated his little boy's first birth day anniversary and this morning he woke to find that his cow had a calf and that one of his hens had left the nest with nine little chicks. A white woman, apparently about middle aged, fell on the street on the corner of Market and Second this afternoon and cut her face. She was beastly drunk and there was nothing to do but to haul her off to the guard house on a dray. It was a disgusting sight. We hear that Mr. W. P. Clyde is having built two more large iron steamships, with first class passen ger accommodation?, which are ex pestedto be ready for service in August. It is hoped . that one, if not both of these, will be placed on the line between this city and New York. - City Court. ; Linle Lamb, charged with disor derly conduct and resisting a police officer, was fined $25. Richard Thomas, colored, the man who was charged with shooting at his wife and who is also supposed to be the party who fired into a street car last Saturday night was arraign ed but the case was continued until Thursday to await the appearance of witnesses and in tbe meantime he was held in custody in default of a bond of $200 for his appearance then. The indications are for a large audience at the Opera House to night to embark on the grand tour around the world that will be pre sented there for their entertainment. Alas ! how many wearily drag themselves about, every effort giving them distress, existing with out any of the pleasurable sensa tions of robust health: Are you in this condition? Why? There is no excuse for feeling mean and miser able. Remove the cause of your distress, which undoubtedly is a state of blood impurity and a disor dered system. How? Why by do ing as others have done. G. W. Chandler, Red Fork, Ark., writes: "I was so weak that it was only with great effort that I could do anything. I used several bottles oi Botanic Blood Balm, and can now do a good day's work." Able to do a good day's work!"1 Is there not something sweet and re freshing in that expression? Strength to vigorously do this or that. Strength that is only overcome by natural fatigue. Strength that when expended, is by rest, and nature fully renewed. Such .will be your reward if you give B. B. B. a trial. II. B. Randolph. Brunswick, Ga., writes: "I was under the care of nine different doctors, but not one did me the good that Botanic Blood Balm has done me.' The Merchants' Excursion. There was an important meeting of the Invitation Committee in re gard to the merchants' excursion on the C. F. & Y V. R. R. last night, at the house of Col. F. W. Kerch ner, the chairman. The Committee was met by Major John McLaughlin, who represented the C. F. & Y. V. R. R., .and a thorough canvass of all the names of merchants between Wilmington and Mount Airy and between Fay etteville and Bennettsville was made. It was found that nearly five hundred business men were on the lists. The committee had aver y important meeting, and Mr. C. H. Robinson, Chairman of the Commit tee of Entertainment, was also pres ent,1, andafter much deliberation it was decided to ask the secretary of the general committee, Mr. Geo. R. French, to send out postal cards in viting the whole committee to meet at the Produce Exchange at 12 o'clock noon on Wednesday and to have a general discussion in regard to the celebration. It was decided to recommend that the celebration I be held on the 19th, 20th and 21st. of this month. Citizens are much interest in this celebration, and it is useless to say that every preparation will be made to make the time pass pleasantly for all. The Board of Audit and Finance met yesterday afternoon. Present R. J. Jones, Esq., Chairman, Win. Calder, W. R. Kenan and John W. Hewett. Bills were audited and approved as follows: Current expenses, $3, 560. CO; note, $5,000; interest, $300. City bonds amounting to $4,500, from the sinking fund, which had matured, were burned in the pres ence of the Board. Little Lord Fauntleroy. A more delightful " entertainment than than that of Little Lord Faunt leroy, at the Opera House last night has never yet been presented to a Wilmington public. The drama is a faithful reproduction of the book and in the hands of such a 'company as that of Mr. French it cannot fail to please the most exacting taste. It was all good. There wasu't a cast that was not faithfully delineat ed and there was no hitch any where. Mr. Haswin, as the Jfarl of Dorincourt, gave a faithful portrai ture of "the fine old English gentle man," the aristocrat of the first water, proud of his name, proud of a long line of distinguished ances tors, haughty and reserved, yet with a good heart, if a proud one, and with noble qualities which only needed the right touch to awaken them to active life. "And a little child shall lead them,' and a little child did lead him back to his older and nobler and better self. Little Flossie Ethel was the ideal little lord, Miss Minnie Had cliff, as 4 'Dear est'' (Mrs. Errol) was simply charai ing, while Mr. Peaves as the stately and dignified, yet kindly English solicitor presented the character to the life. But as a little lady of our acquaintance says: "It was all, all, all good" and everybody was "de lighted, and "milord" will be wel comed with effusion if he ever stops over in Wilmington again. County Commissioners. The Board met yesterday after noon in regular session. Present, H. A. Bagg, Esq., chairman; Com missioners Roger Moore, E. L. Pearce, B. G. Worth, Jas. A. Mont gomery. E. Hewlett, county treasurer, sub mitted his report, showing a balance of $28,253.37 on hand to the cedit of the general fund, and $1G,611.C7 to the credit of the school fund. J. E. Sampson, Register of Deeds, submitted his monthly report of fees received from v marriage licenses during the month of February amounting to $22.80, and exhibited the treasurer's receipt therefor. . Licensesto retail spirituous liquors were granted to J. H. Otterway, No. 113 South Front street, and Charles F. Browne, corner of North Water and Mulberry streets.- - It was ordered that the Chairman of the Board procure eight addition al index books, at a cost of $25 for each volume, less 5 per cent., dis count. Ordered, also, that the tax charged against the Wilmington Light In fantry on lots in the southern part of the city be -remitted. A vote of thanks was extended to Capt. W. H. Bixby, Engineer U. S.
