An old friend and subscriber, Mr. S. B. McQueen, who removed from Hovey county. S. C, to Milam coun ty, Texas, 19 years ago, and who by dint of economy and hard work has prospered in that new land, writes us some description of that country. He calls' it n ",.B1.if, , , , , vpntiio wonderland ' and says that for productiveness ji soil it cannot.be excelled. It is one of the central counties of the Lone Star State. It has an altitude of 1,000 feet above the sea level and is a healthy, beautifully diversified country. The soil is sand- and black loam, rich and productive, "with a sufficiency of timber for all purposes. The water is good and easy of ac cess. The churches and schools have large attendance. The lands com mand from $5 to $20 per acre, owing to location and improvement, ' Corn and cotton are the chief products, although oats, sorghum, millet and a few of the cereals receive atten tion. The average of cotton last year throughout the .county was a fraction over one-half bale to the acre and the average price received for the "monarch" was 9 cents per pound. Corn averaged 36 bushels per acre and oats about the same. Fruits and vegetables grow almost spontaneously. Stock-raising is an important and profitable industry and hundreds are engaged in the business. The county is financially in an excellent condition and is building up rapidly. Honest Ioctors. All honest, conscientious' physi cians who give B. B. B. (Botanic Blood Balm) a trial, frankly admit its superiority over all other blood medicines. Dr. W. J. Adair. Rockmart, Ga., writes: "I regard B. B. B. asone'of the best blood medicines." Dr. A. H. Roscoe.Nashville.Tenn., writes: . "All reports of B. B. B. are favorable, and its .speedy action is wonderful." Dr. J. W. Rhodes, Crawfordviile, Ga., writes: "I confess B. B. B. is the best and quickest medicine for rheumatism I have ever tried." Dr. S. J. Farmer, Crawfordviile, Ga., writes: "I cheertully recom mend B. B. B. as a fine tonic altera tive. Its use cured an excrescence of the ne:k after other remedies ef fected no perceptible good." Dr. C. H. Montgomery, Jackson ville, Ala., writes: "My mother in sisted on my getting B. B. B. for her rheumatism, as her case stubbornly resisted the usual remedies. She ex perienced immediate relief and her improvement has been trulv won derful." Dr. G. W. Earie, Pickens, 8. O., writes: "I recommended B. B. B. to a man who had suffered for years with a malignant ulcer on his leg, that seeiued to resist all other treat ment. The music rendered by the choir of this church last night was as usual very fine, but there were addi tional attractions on this occasion. Ar: r i i -1 Miss Florence G. Bowden, .daughter of Mr, H. M. Bowden, rendered in most exquisite style the. solo, 'I heard the voice of Jesus say," which was composed by Prof. VanLaer. Miss Bowden has just returned from New York, where for the past four months she has been under the best and most scientific teacher in that city, and her rich, sweet notes were fully enjoyed by the large con gregation present. She will return to New York again ere long to com plete her course of instruction. She has a voice of great scope and un usual sweetness, and at no distant day she will return from New York and Grace M. E. Church may well be projud to have such a vain511 acouisition to their choir. - -Yesterday Morning's Fire The alarm of fire yesterday morn: ing, about 10 o'clock, came from box 32 corner Third and Nun streets, and was caused by the ignition of the dwelling of Miss GaUse, on Second near Nun. The fire caught on the roof and is said to have been caused by some scras of paper which were swept in the fire and flew up the chimney and alighted on the roof in a blaze. The engines and trucks were promptly at the spot but when the fire plugs were opened it was found that there wasno water. Af ter waiting some time for the water which was expected every moment, but did not come, the steamers were sent to the river and to cisterns. By this time, however, what might have been a small fire at first, with water at hand to suppress it, had become a very serious affair. It was per haps three quarters of an hour be fore the hydrants gave out watei with sufficient force to reach the flames.. The furniture was all re moved but the house was very ser iously damaged, the upper half hav ing been destroyed. There was in surance for $1,000 on the house, in the British Insurance Co., aud for $200 on the furniture, in the Liver pool, London & Globe, both repre sented here bv Messrs. Smith & Boatwright, which will nearly cover the loss. The failure of the hydrants to sup ply the water is dui to the fact that it was neeessarv to oreaK into tne main, near Hilton, to supply hy drants for Messrs. Parsley & Wig gins mills. It was unavoidable and 011 Saturdav eveniog the Chief of the Fire Department was notified of the fact that the water would be turned off. Fortunately, there was but little wind at the time or there might have been a very serious dis aster to record. In advanced age the declining powers are wonderfullv refreshed by tloou s rarsaparilla.
