State Senator George W. - Dela
inater, of Meadville, is understood
to be Senator Quay's candidate for
the Republican nomination for Got
ernor of Pennsylvania, and jt. is
claimed-that all the leaders of the
regular organization are enlisted in
Delainater's behalf. But the Pitts
burg Chron icle Tetegraph aRepublican
organ, is behaving badly, and is let
ting out some ugly political secretf.
It claims to have proof that, Dela
mater secured the delegation from
Cambria county by the use ot cash
and the promise of Federal officers.
The Ctronicle Telegraph gives a long
list of. officeholders and prospective
Felernl appointees, ail of them, it is
claimed, having been made by Quay
on recommendation- of Delamater,
in return for work done in Cambria
by DHamater.- Ir is further asserted
that f t.!iH 104 persons who partici
-u?ed in thr Csmibria County Con

Akm'ntant Secretary Bussey lias
(Ir-cidedtlie appeal which was taken
by Mn. Ahnira J. Morton from the
adverse action of the Bureau of
Pensions on her claim for pension as
the widow of lieutenant Colonel
Charles H'. Morton, of the 84th regi
ment Illinois Infantry. He was
captured in the battle of Chick'a
inaufca, September 20, 1803, confined
in Libby. prison, under severe pri
vations, about seven months and
mustered out of the service June l.
1865. He committed suicide in 1880;
and 1he widow, who; it is said,- was
left in an almost penniless condi
tion, applied for a pension, alleging"
that the deceased soldier incurred
physical and mental disabilities by
reason oi tne privations or tne ser
vice. Mr. Bussey concludes" that
Colonel Morton incurred in the
Libby prison the disease which end
ed in the suicide. The claim was
originally rejected on the ground
that the cause of the soldier's death
did not originate in the service. The
widow's pension will begin May 26'
1880, the date of the soldier's death,
and will be rated at $30 a month.
Mrs. Mortyn is a daughter of the
late ex-GovernorWilliamSjOf Illinois.
Senatoi Sherman's anti-trust bijl
has finally gone the way of all bun
combe bills in the U. S. Senate. It
been decently interred in a pigeon
hole with the Judicary Committee
as pall-bear.ers. Senator Vance said
he never had a bill in which he felt
any interest referred to this grand
mausoleum of Senatorial literature.
the Judiciary (Committee.1' without
feeling that he had attended a fu
neral. He said further, according
to the Washington rost: "So, if it
is the determination of the Senate
to send this bill to the Judiciary
Committee, to deliver the child for
nurture to the persons having most
interest in its death? I shall have
sorrowfully to submit myself to that
state of things, but J hope I may be
pardoned for saything that I feel a
&ooddeal as we are giveu to under
' stand the Apostle Paul felt when he
took leave of the ciders at Ephesus.
Having told them that he should de-
part from them never more, to re-
turn, xne recoru says: -ney

the record says: They all
wept sore and fell on Paul's neck,
sorrowing the most of all for tlie
words which he spoke, that they
should see bis face no tuore.'' ' am?
satisfied, sir. that when this bill xloes
come back it will be sd mutilated
that it will have everything that
can possible be of any benelit to
P1 of thiscountry so entirely
eliminated and eradicated, that It
will for practical purposes not be
worth the paper that it is written
upon, aud the 'country "will o .ac
