There was a municipal election in Butte, Mon.J on Monday and the only 'issue was as to whether the people would sustain the action of the canvassing board in throwing out precinct 31 in the late State elec tion." The vote was for seven alder men and a mayor and the Demo crats won a handsome victory. "Nine thousand Republicans fail ed to jrote." This is the news from Cleveland, Ohio, via Republican line It is simply terrible. If true it justifies the divorce of Ohio from the Republican column, which has lately been so affectionately and ef fectually effected. It is in order now for John Sherman -o call for a committee of investigation and con dolence - Miss Annie Ileaslitt Gould, daugh ter of the late Thomas Gould, a no ted young society woman, a grad uate of Wells College and a friend of Mrs. G rover Cleveland, has run away and married George L. Win ter, tier coachman. She left him the next day. She took a Summery of the situation and found that the Winter of her discontent did not de lay its corning. - Mr. Randall died a poor man. His estate, "it is said, will not exceed $10,000, all told. There is a fund, however, of $50,000 which was raised some little time back through the exertions of the noble-hearted Geo. W. Childs and offered to Mr. Ran dall. He positively refused to ac cept it, but the funds were held in hand and will now be tendered to Mrs. Randall, with the hope that she will accept them. Bless your heart, little Rhody ! You have got there and you are there to stay. You have been hungering for a long time after good, honest Dem ocratic society, and you have carried your pointat last. With a Governor and a full State ticket, all Demo cratfya will soon be the case, you can hold your head up as proudly as can any one of the bright galaxy of Democratic States. You are lit tle, Rhodvvbutyou are loud. The Boston Globe has hit the thing fairly and squarely when it says that the two horns of the Re publican dilemma are plain to see. If the West is placated by keeping on the wool duties and adding on a duty on hides, Xew England, ex- j capting Vermont, will go Demo- j cratic in 1892, and probably next ! Fall. If New England is appeased by a reduction of the duties on wool and other raw materials, then Ohio will be alienated and Pennsylvania angered. - -V In advanced age the declining powers are wonderf ull v refreshed by Hood's Sarsaparilla. it really does "make the weak strong.!' er, Mr. Geo. W. Williams. The Wilmington Light Infantary are talking of attending the 20th of May celebration in Charlotte. There was nothing done in the Superior Court to-day. R. or, rather, the two sections of one train, came in yesterday on time, the first ar riving here at C.10 and the other at 0.30. A delegation from the com mittee on celebrating, the event was on hand to receive them and a large number of citizens, among whom were many ladies, were also assem bled on the wharf. Each delegation was handed a white ribbon badge as he landed on the dock. There were about four hundred in all on the two trains and it took two steamers, the Compton and theJwr chison, to bring them over to the city. As the boats left the wharf at Point Peter the excursionists were greeted with a saWo of artillery from the revenue cutter Colfax, as she lay in the stream, with all of her buntinsr displayed. Some few other excursionists came in this, morning and others will probably arrive this afternoon. ' . The sudden change' in the' weather does not seem to have seriously in terfered with the enjoyment of our visitors.
