How carelessly the answer ffe gi.yeu. Do you know how it feels to have rheumatism? Oh! it's terrh ble, the swelling and the excrticiat ing pan of ankle, knee, elbow and shoulder, just as if each point was a bundle of irritated nerves, each one seemingly bent on giving more pain than the other. Laying awake all night longing: for daylight, aching too severelyHo sleep, "applying lini ment every half hour to temporarl ly relieve the agony, praying, curs ing, turning, iwisting, but no ease, no comfort. GO arid as, at the same time, the pressure was 30 to the Southwest of us, it made quite a steep gradient towards the centre, down which the atmosphere moved with great ener gy. The maximum velocity here was 29 miles per hour, from G to 7 a. tu., and the rainfall. 1G of an inch. The wind x blew a gale along the South Atlantic coast, but with our customary good luck we escaped all but the fag end of it. County Commissioners. All the members of the Board of Commissioners were present at the meeting held yesterday afternoon. The County Treasurer's report, showing a balance to the credit of the general fund amounting" to $2G, 232.11, and a balance of $13,439.03 to the educational fund, was received and ordered filed. Hansley be appointed special sur veyor to survey landsof Owen Hans- ey in uap? pear rownsuip. Bids for the construction of the new poor house building were open ed, but the Board declined to make known for the present the name of the successful bidder. At the meeting of the Board of Audit and Finance, held yesterday, all the members being present, the following, received from the Board of Aldernen, was read: I2esolvalt That a special commit tee be appointed, to be known and styled as the Sewerage uoinmittee, who shall be authorizedto take such measures as they may see fit, to as certain the approximate cost of a system of sewerage, and employ such santary engineer as they may elect for advice, preliminary survey, etc., and that the sum of $2,000, or so much thereof as may be neces sary, be appropriated for his pur pose. ' Mr. Calder, in reference to the above, offered the ..following, which was adopted: That tl.e communication in re gard to appropriating $2,000 for a sewerage system be returned to the Board of Aldermen with the state ment that in the opinion of this Board a proper system cannot be constructed for lessfthan $100,000 to $150,000, and that it would be neces sary to create additional debt for that purpose by issuing bonds, which cannot 5e done without authority from tli? Legislature, confirmed by a vote cf the people, and that an ex penditue of $2,000 before such pow er is granted might'result in a waste of the a:nount expended, either by a failure to obtain the proper author i7.atioi or by such changes or im proveuents having been made in the imantime in the science of sani tary tiigineering as to render the expenliture premature au4 of no value. It is, therefore, ihe opinion of thisBoard that it is impolitic to spend money now until the main quest in of sewerage or no sewerage is defititely determined. At tie suggestion of Alderman Poit, diairman of the Sanitary Com mittee, who appeared before the Boar$ the appropriation for Jacob's Run wwer was increased froui$2,50U to $3,5)0; the estimate made by the City Engineer as to the cost of the work cf improving the same.
