What is it that makes women more smiling and happy-looking than men ? We meet them on the cars, on the streets, in the country, by the seashore, always smiling, teeth a glistening, eyes a dancing. Ah! the secret is they aim to jilease. It is an effort in many instances for them to smile, and were it not for a desire to look pleasing and pretty many would "never smile again.' Why? Recause in a large majority of in stances they don't feel like smiling. They feel miore like crying. With their nervous aches, weakness and bearing down pain, life to them is a burden. What a gold-find to many a physician is a rich sic' woman. Why should he aiin to cure her and deny himself the pleasure of pre senting his bills with the usual regu larity. It seems from the following, thattbe surest and cheapest way for invalid women to regain health and strength is by using Botanic Blood Balm (B. B. B.) Mrs. J. A. White, 340 Wythe street, Petersburg, Va., writes: "I have used B. li. B. with happy results, ftiid others have taken it at mv au Maj. Stedman's Achlresj. We think it will be found that the description of the battle of Reams' Station, in Hon. Chas. M. Sted man's Memorial address delivered here last Tuesday, is the clearest, most correct and most comprehend sive of any that has yet leen given to the world of that famous tight, won by North Carolina troops. Capt. Ashe, of the Raleigh Ncwsand Observer, in commenting on it, says: "We have read with much interest the eloquent address of Maj. Sted man on. Memorial Day at Wilming ton. The address is replete with historical incidents, and is a worthy tribute to the brave Clan Macltae, whose ancient fame Gen. William MacRae so splendidly maintained in his day and generation. We have seldom read an address with more genuine gratification. Gen. MacRae was indeed all the chivalrous Sted man described him, and he is fortu uate in having such a capable ora tor to sketch his daring deeds and portray his fine characteristics. In particular must we commend Maj. Stedman for his admirable account of the battle of Reams' Station, where North Carolina was so sig nally successful and her valor ob tained such ample recognition from the lion-hearted Lee." Maj. Dave at Goldsboro. Maj. Graham Davis, of this city, delivered the Memorial Address this year in Goklsboro and we know that it must have been a great treat to all who heard him for there is. no man in the South qualified to speak more intelligently of the Lost Cause and its dead heroes than is Maj Daves. The Argun tells us this:- Maj. Daves stepped forward with the erace of the old soldier that he is and a braver never was and with the ease and self-possession of au orator aud. scholar addressed him self at once to the meaning and pur pose of the occasion. His speech was an ornate and beautiful tribute to the heroism of the immortal dead who wore the gray, and to the living heroes, as well, of the "Lost Cause" and to the nobility of the Southern wives and mothers the inspiration of the ( on leuerate soldiers, lie .also paid a glowing tribute to the no less noble Southern women of to day who stul keep by these memorials the memory and the valor of those who stood shoulder to shoulder in that great conflict where brave men faced death and heroes fell for their dear South land. We regret our inability to give the speech in full and we are unwilling to spoil its beautiful completeness bv detaching a single fragment. It did not ileal in llowerv tropes, nor was there a single effort to soar into the realms of the unreal. It was. as we have .-aid, an ornate, beautiful. paeiuc. instructive and inspiring oration, bristling with proud facts of historv wherein bouthern bravery won victories, aud glistening witti flashes of genuin thought and pre sentation that will lonir be remem bered by hi.- hearer.-, aud will not fail to make their impress for good upon the voting, especial I . who likened to his word?. - PL&ASX XOTICL ' - We will t slid to receive oonnaamcati froa oar mends on any and all tuojecu general interest, bat Tne name or tne writer mast always to nish&l to in alitor. .; ' V!- -.v " "' communications mast be wmtea en one side or tne paper.
