Since the gas ligh ts are turned out at the commencement of the lecture, the Operfj. House will be as cool as if the audience were sitting out doors. We can promise everybody a cool, inexpensive and very inter esting lecture. Weekly Weather Crop Bulletin. The reports of correspondents of the Weekly Weather Crop Bulletin, issued by the North Carolina Ex periment Station and State Weather Service, co-operating with the Uni ted States Signal Service, show that the weather has been quite warm and dry during the week ending Fri day, J une Gth, 1890. The maximum temperature reached 90 degrees on several days at many places, the highest reported being 94 degrees at Cheraw and 92 at Raleigh. The amount of sunshine was above the average. Although very dry, the excessive rain of the preceedlng week prevented any material dam age being done, except perhaps in the extreme northeastern part of the State, where rain is especially need ed. Copious showers fell on Friday. The rainfall for the week was above one inch at Scotland Neck, Weldon and Wilmington. Harvesting wheat and haying are progressing rapidly. A majority of reports indicate a short crop of wheat, and not of good qual ity. General crop outlook contin ues to be unusually promising. The Power of Money. What an influence for good or evil is exerted by the proper or improp er use of money. It seems to bo the first essential of modern life. Sad indeed is the lot of that man or that woman without money and without friends. Especially in cases of sick ness is the need of money felt most pressingly, and yet even the rich with all their money fall into a state of poor health and die, whereas if their money was rightly expended and the proper remedies applied they might regain health and strength. Z. A. Clark, Atlanta,Ga., says: "I spent four hundred and eighty dol lars in gold to cure me of terrible blood poison that affected my limbs and nose and body, with running ulcers. One month's treatment ot i B B healed the ulcers, restored my appetite, strengthened my kidneys and added 21 pounds to my weight." Still, in spite of this and much e agent, are published in this other testimony there are many who .. . refuse to try the remedy, seeming to . They speak for themselves. prefcr to ' ,arffe fes to phy8i. Mr. John H. The great truth however, ever shines brightly and that is, that no one who ever gave B B B (Botanic Blood Balm) a trial ever found disappointment therein. O. H. Rudolph, Talladega, Fla., writes: "I had blood disease for six years, but nothing benefited me, al though I paid two hundred and fifty dollars for treatment. At last I tried B IS B and found it a quick and day evening, when the band will Give their first concert of the feasor. Henry Shepard, colored, residing on South Front, between Nun and Church streets, returned home about 12 o clock Saturday night and found nis wife and several of her friends in the kitchen together. Be ing angry and upder the influence of whiskey he procured an axe, went upon the piazza and struck his wife on the shoulder and back with the axe, prostrating her. He then ran the women away and turned upon Henry Nixon, who was talking with his wife when he arriv ed. He struck Nixon a blow with the axe when Nixon fled, lie pur sued Nixon to Second, near Nun street, where he struck him over the head with the axe. knocking him in the gutter. Two gentlemen passing at the time took the axe from him after which he beat Nixon with a rock. Shepard's wife is seriously injured and Nixon is in a bad condition. Mayor' Fowler arrested Shepard Sunday morning at 2 o'clock, and committed him for trial at the next term of the Criminal Court for an assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
