Got the JEifhre Gang.
Information "was lodged at the
City Hall today chat a gang of
tramps, seven in number, were lo
cated in the woods neaa- the turn
pike just east of the city and officers
Tietgen, Howell and Wood were de
tailed for their capture. They suc
ceeded iii this and the entire gang,
all Italians, were conveyed to the
guard house where the Mayor told
them to leave the city instanter
and ordered a detail of policemen to
see the thing properly carried into
effect.
A Rad Week.
In all, there have been 17 deaths
in this city during the present week.
Of these 11 were children and the
fearfully warm weather may ai
count for this, in a .great measure.
The mortality among the ohildren is
always the greatest, everywhere,
when the thermometer is at its high
est. There were four deaths by
violence, also, in the list. Oakdale
repoits three, all children;- Bellevue
thfe"e, two adults and one child, and
Pine Forest eleven, four adults and
seven children.
At tlie lieacli Yesterday.
The number of those; who wentJ
down to Carolina Beach yesterday
on the excursion given by the W. S
F. E. Co. No. 1 is conservatively es
timated at 800. It was the ideal day
for an outing of this nature and the
fact was liberally appreciated. The
wind was from the East and there
was a good surf, which was full of
bathers nearly all day long. The
Passport brought up a large number
in the afternoon and it required two
trips of the train to take all from the
beach to the boat.
Te Fourth at the ISeaeh
There will be big times at Car o

expected that the fun there on that

include two concerts by the Germa

Married, This Morning.
Rt. Rev. A. A. Watson, D. I).,

late Mi. F. iJ. Lord. The ceremony
Took place in St. James' Church, at

the organ. ,
At the conclusion of the ceremony

FrntsLreet depot and embarked
for Kinston, near which, place there
is an Drdinatioh service for to mor
